Is your music library bigger than your iPod (round 2)
FIRST
- go through your entire library like last time, selecting the artists
that you want to put on your iPod, making their songs all show up
in the bottom pane. However, this time after you select a couple
- all you have to do is go down to the bottom window and hold the
command key down (probably Ctrl on PC?) and click on one of the
checkboxes, and it will check them all. Quite handy! (Thanks Mike!) |

Once
you've gone through your library and checked everything you want
on your iPod - you can create a Smart Playlist that shows you all
the checked ones. Note: I have it set to limit at 55GB, but once
I look in there, I'll make sure this list stays a tad below 40GB
since that's my iPod's maximum. |

Then
I made a smart playlist that shows me all whatever is NOT checked and
therefore NOT on my iPod:

This
is so I can see the Newest Music in my entire music collection at a glance:

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
This
is how I have it set up to show me just the newest music on my iPod.
This is pretty cool because it's using other playlists - there's
no need to say Match only checked songs, since the iPod YES playlist
is already set to query that, and there's no need to set the date
as it will always use the same Newest Music date I have on my other
list (which is what I want - you could always make them different
here if you prefer by changing the 2nd one here to a Date Added
after date.) |

Note
that on any of your playlists you can go into the Edit menu (or
hit Command + B) to view the browser. I knew how to do this but
didn't have it on some of my previous screenshots. I've also taken
off viewing the "Genre" column in all of my browsers (which
you can do in Preferences). |

Last
but not least -
this screenshot shows you my *new* settings for updating my iPod, the
