Tahoe Adventure

Well, I've got some good news & bad news. Let's start w/ some good news:

Tahoe is AWESOME. God, it's so beautiful... I can't wait to post pics for you all.. I got some amazing ones yesterday... the weather has been amazing.

Snowboarding was fun yesterday - however I was a bit frustrated w/ how bad I've gotten, after not going at all last year and maybe once or twice the year before that. Matt (my ex) was never too into it, as he was still learning how to ski and not that good at it. So he never really wanted to go up, and when we would finally go, I always either waited for him every time or would have to go off on my own so I could jam down the hill.

I have been snowboarding since I was 12 (I grew up in Steamboat, CO - which is a resort town like Vail or Aspen if you're not familiar) so for the most part I've been able to put down snowboarding for a year here & there and then pick it back up again with no problem. One of the last times I went, back in 2001 probably, I was in Steamboat and had my cousin & her boyfriend visiting - and her boyfriend was a hard core skiier so we hit some awesome runs together and kicked ass down the hill. (I'm best at just goin down the hill as fast as possible... it's such a rush! You know - the rush of "oh shit, if I fall now I just might die" :)

Anyway - yesterday was frustrating trying to pick it up again because it was clear I was out of practice. Granted I was still bookin down the mountain, and not falling too much - but I just didn't have the control I used to have when I went more.

Alright - so now for some bad news: I tweaked my knee really bad. :(

Ya see, I pulled this jump.... huge air, kick ass tight tailgrab - so tough, right?

Oh Alright - actually, it really wasn't pulling some rad jump. Instead, I frickin tweaked my knee doing the hardcore move of "getting off the chairlift." (grr!!!)

The damn rental boards we got didn't have grip pads in the middle (blame :) so as we're getting off the chairlift (only the 2nd of the day!!), all of a sudden my boot slipped off the board and caught the snow, and my strapped in right foot kept goin. So my left foot went out to the side and snapped my knee sideways. OW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It hurt SOOOOOO BAD!!!! I immediately went down and thought for SURE I had just totally blown my knee out. It all happened so fast but next thing I knew I was on the ground in EXCRUCIATING PAIN. :*(

Rick came over to me and unstrapped my other foot and there was a ski patrol right there talking to me.

After about 2 minutes (of pure pain & fear that I had just totally frickin ruined my knee over such an idiotic thing), I tried to bend it - and low & behold I could!!!! So I got up.. and actually could stand on it (!). I talked to the ski patrol chic about what I should look out for - and she asked me a whole bunch of times if I had heard it pop. And I don't know if I heard it - but the thing most DEFINITELY popped out to the side and then snapped back in. My youth and elasticity are really all I got workin for me here :)

It still hurt, but I was bound to keep up with the day, and impressed as all hell that I could still frickin bend it and stand on it - so I decided to keep boarding for awhile and see if it'd be ok. But, by the end of the day there was no ignoring the fact that it was hurtin pretty bad. The good news is that it never got swollen, which apparently is the true tell tale sign that something is really f*d up.

So, where am I now? 1:30pm on a beautiful sunny Sunday in Tahoe? Yup. In the cabin. I knew I couldn't go boarding - as I can actually hardly walk. I'm limpin and had a really hard time sleeping lastnight since I can't really straighten it. The inside of my knee (where the bone was pushed out or whatever) is really sore to the touch. So I think it's just super aggravated... :( I hate having an injury - I'm really no good at being anything less than 100%.

However, the kick ass news is that Rick stayed at the cabin w/ me :) (partly due to not wanting to mess his neck up more, since it was already outta wack from getting a kink and then continuing to lift all last week + slammin down 30 some times yesterday on the hill. He's only gone boarding about 5 times now so he's still getting some good "one on one time with the snow" :) So we're just here chillin. We dropped Kat and the other 2 off at Alpine, took our boards back and got ourselves some yummy coffee. And now I'm here on Kat's laptop, dialed up on AOL to check email and post a little something.

:::::

Lastnight was a blast... we all came back here & hopped in the hot tub first thing. aww yaaa. (I'm really just here for the "hot-tubbin") and then we headed out to the grocery store to grab some food & beer for the night.

We made pizzas and had red wine - and my favorite: Bailey's on ice!!! God damn I love this drink. I'm having one now as I type this and my leg is propped up w/ a snow ice pack, made by my personal Doctor here :)

Lastnight we got pretty toasted... With no good games layin around - and some miscommunication about who was supposed to bring the XBOX, we listened to music and I rummaged to find every last piece of scrap paper in the house to doodle on.

Our final hot tub of the night was a blast, complete with Jon singing us one of his new songs (he's a musician and is willing to teach me bass guitar!!) at the top of his lungs - and hearing him go on about how OutKast is the best band around... it was absolutely hilarious.

So I sure hope this knee heals up ok - and I can hit the mountain again in February. For now though, I'm gonna go finish my Bailey's and see what DVD's they've got upstairs. Oh ya - and I'll post photos tomorrow probably.

Hope ya'all are having a good weekend!
