adventure or bust: beginning travel plans
So I was thinking about going to Burning Man this year... thinking now is a great time in my life to experience it, everyone should go atleast once, etc. But I have also been thinking about taking a trip to Europe. Now is also a great time in my life for that, too. I plan to travel on my own... visiting new cities, learning about a different culture first hand, meeting new people and taking in the rich experience.Just yesterday when I was telling someone my plan to go to Burning Man, they remarked how expensive it is now. It is? I didn't know! Here I thought I could just go along w/ my friends... party, boppin around seeing all the people I know who are going. But $225 dollars!!? Well now that's 1/2 my ticket to Europe! As as great as my new little home is, it's also costing me a bit more moola than before - and it doesn't have trees out back that are growing the type of green that can pay for all this luxury!!!
SO with that said - I'm NOT going to Burning Man. (which makes me sad, cuz I really did want to experience it) But I AM going to Europe! woohoo!!
I've been wanting to go somewhere for so long. I went to London (for a weekend) and Spain (for 2 weeks) back in 1998 and returned about 2 weeks prior to meeting Matt. (Wow! So much has happened in those 5 years!) Matt & I did some traveling, but Maui, Mexico and Seattle was about as exotic as we got. I'm really looking forward to exploring Europe more.
So now the big question - where to go!? I absolutely loved Spain, but I need to explore someplace new. My coworker thinks I should go to Paris (she's lived there off and on and has a passionate love affair with that city). Personally, I have heard good and bad things about it. I don't know a lick of French (not that that should stop me, I like the challenge of a new language), but I also can't help but think that it being the "city of love" doesn't sound as appealing for going single... still, it's an option.
Other places I'm seriously rolling around:
Dublin, Ireland or Rome, Italy.
I've also always wanted to visit Greece, India, Japan, too - so many choices!!! What's your vote?
