working hard, working out

This week's been awesome productive. I was IMing w/ a friend about it yesterday, how I've been getting stuff checked off my to do list that's been on there for months! SO STOKED! And he replied "nothing beats that feeling, except maybe orgasm.... MAYBE." and I replied, "ya, seriously. The two are practically equal for me. haha" I seriously get off on being productive!!

Truly though, this week *life is in order* and it feels great. I've been working really hard all day every day, and working out hard every day all week, too. Between weights at the beginning of the week, a relatively intense yoga class and cardio on all the other days around that, I've been feeling sore, fit and alive. SO AWESOME.

Unlike last week's party marathon, this week I only went out Thursday night & Saturday night... both just having a nice dinner out amounting to maybe 3 drinks total each night. yay!

Me & my good friend Rachel @ the LAC: Rachel used to live here & we were really close about 3 years ago,
but she's moved to San Diego since then & was just up here visiting! It was good to see her again! xoxo

Lastnight, while everyone else was Consumating at Promsumating (can't wait to see those photos! :), Holly I were in Oakland, first having a delicious dinner at Luka's Taphouse... I highly recommend it!

For starters I had the chioggia & golden beet salad w/ arugula, toasted walnuts, pt reyes blue cheese & a muscatel-walnut vinaigrette (yumm) and Holly splurged and ordered chicken liver paté w/ walnuts & balsamic figs and a cheese plate with both a blue and one other one, I can't remember which. Both were amazing though of course.. you can hardly go wrong with cheese! :) For a main course she had the grilled creekstone all natural black angus ribeye steak w/ grilled asparagus, roasted potatoes, pickled shallots, shaved reggiano & extra virgin olive oil and I had the grilled yellowtail jack on grilled squash puree w/ sautéed spinach, roasted tomato coulis & black olive tapenade, which was SO delicious I could literally have it every single day and never tire of it! yummm!

Holly has a favorite drink there, called the Green Hornet. I was pretty excited to try it, mostly because I love tequila, but it turned out to be a bit too sweet for me. Still, what a pretty green, huh?

Green Hornet @ Luka's Taphouse: herradura silver tequila, cilantro-mint infused, simple syrup,
fresh squeezed lime & a splash of ginger beer, served on the rocks w/ a jalapeno rubbed sugared rim

After dinner we hit Nacho Libre @ the Parkway: HILARIOUS!!!! I love Jack Black so much!! We were cracking up the whole time. I got home around 11:45 and contemplated stopping by Prom to say hi, but after a full day of a workout & working and then dinner and the movie, I was wiped out. I read a little of the book I'm reading, and was conked out by 12:30! The best part of that was that I was up feeling wide awake and refreshed at 8:30am & took a hike up the hill! Gorgeous day out already.

OK, I'm off to make some breakfast, get a bit more work done today & then I'm headed down to Santa Cruz for a little family gathering/celebration for my brother & Samara's engagement! yay! Have a wonderful Sunday everybody!

p.s. there's a few more photos from these various events in my July 2006 album.

I dreamt we went to Iceland!!

so that means we must go! Here was the dream:

A bunch of us (definitely Misty & Ted because they played major roles in the dream) were like, in High School or something (ha!), and during "lunch" I went to the computer lab & bought my tickets! ha! I remember thinking afterwards that I shouldn't buy things online while intoxicated (haha - at school? :p) but regardless felt the need to find Misty & Ted quick to tell them I went for it and that they needed to hurry & buy the same tickets so we could all go!

Next thing I know - we're in Iceland! wooooo! We were walking down the street and there were wild Bengal tigers walking around - ha! (you know, foreign countries, all kinds of crazy things happen!) Well that wasn't the end of it either - my major motion picture dreams are nuts... so in this plaza in front of our hotel there was a huge black kitty laying there smiling and swishing it's tail around peacefully and happy! I wish I could remember more details about this, but I just remember thinking, "man, Iceland is so cool!" hahaa.

As far as bands it was like we were friends with some of the ones on tour and so we were backstage or in a room with some of them at one point, and we'd heard that Tom Petty (hi, totally because someone Dodgeball'd about Tom Petty lastnight! :p) had DIED. So, as we're sitting in this room, I start talking about how tragic that is, because I had just seen him a few days ago (I guess he was playing the festival, too?) and how I felt so fortunate to have seen him so close to the time before he died. And next thing I know he walks in & is like, "no it was all a hoax!" haha.

At this point I'm lying on this couch, feeling really tired because, you know, being fabulous at music festivals for days on end is HARD. And he lays down next to me, all spooney like, and says "but you know what is dead? my music career." HHAHAHAA. And we start having this conversation about how he has 4 kids (but hilariously he says something to the effect that some of them were out of drunkenness - haha) and how will he ever support them now, etc. But at that point we were both so sleepy we started dozing off. A bit later though we were up & he introduced me to his wife and she was one of those daisy duke type of girls who hangs out in cowboy bars with low cut shirts tied in knots under her tits (like a crop). And he insists I feel her boobs, so I do (haha) and I said, "wow are those real?" and she said yes, and Tom was all proud. hahaa. And at that point I tell them this story about how I had this idea to commemorate him with something that had to do with the Raconteurs, I'm not sure - something like "RacPetty" - but it'd be pronounced "Rawk-Petty" because of the pronunciation of the Raconteurs, so in my dream I thought I was all clever. hahaa.

Anyway, I think that was pretty much my dream - but hello! We were IN ICELAND! We're SO GOING!!! :)

wtf?

I just went into my spam folder, to make sure no legit emails were caught in there, and clicked on one of them that turned out to be one of those "Blowout Pharmacy" emails with the image of the pills they have (at the lowest prices of course). But the words below happen to catch my eye...

blow on cup but death it's belief may shoe and nose be public some thing and wide may heart not bread it's ornament a high on fruit it's complete may brain it sharp in sort but bit see order on noise , line in behavior be powder it's circle in porter may house false in rain it's group past be arm may complete may leaf be stiff it's stiff but attempt some copper be some help some authority but hand a potato in fact be way it knife see doubt may structure the part try slope on stocking it brown on plough try fiction

Obviously whoever's sending the emails has been trying some of the pills they're selling!

I have been a busy little bee and it's caught up to me today. zzzzz

photos coming soon, but for now here's an interesting list of facts about coffee. I make myself a double shot soy latte every morning & I think I've always thought espresso had more caffeine in it than normal coffee... but it doesn't! weird!

Originally uploaded by Willo.

I have a TON of photos from my trip, but haven't uploaded all of them yet. For now I did upload just a few on flickr giving a sneak peak into the time I've had so far: First, after flying into Denver, visiting my friend from HS, Michelle & her baby Aidan; Visiting Drew & his family - and sequentially partying my arse off w/ Drew on Thursday night (those photos to come); Driving up to Steamboat & spending the weekend with my Mom & 14 year old little sister hiking, biking, playing with their 2 puppies, playing games and watching movies. Oh & did I mention Steamboat summers are AMAZING!? It's been in the 80's & 90's the whole time - GORGEOUS! The only thing is, I have about 8 mosquito bites to show for it. haha.

Anyway, more photos soon - but you can at least see these few for now. I fly home tomorrow!

Nathan of Cold War Kids

Nathan of Cold War Kids
Originally uploaded by Willo.

Driving around today I think I probably listened to "Hospital Beds" by Cold War Kids about 8 times. Every time it finished, I simply wasn't satisfied with having to hear any other song and *needed* to listen to this one again.

Did you see a girl driving around in a red Golf TDI today, beltin' out lyrics in her own happy little world? That was me. :)

There's nothing to do here
some just whine and complain
in bed in the hospital
coming and going
asleep and awake
in bed at the hospital

tell me the story
of how you ended up here
I've heard it all in the hospital
nothing's sufficing
doctors on tour
somewhere in India

I've got one friend
laying across from me
I did not choose him
he did not choose me
(favorite lines to belt out)
we've got no chance of recovery
joy and hospital
joy and misery

put out the fire boys
don't stop don't stop
put out the fire on us

bring the buckets by the dozens
bring your nieces and your cousins
come put out the fire on us

we are now fish and chips
a tidy young opera

::::

Gawd, they are SO good!! Go listen to it for yourself on the Cold War Kids Myspace page. Then come back here & view all my photos from this show... and be sure to check out Misty's & Bagel Ted's, too.

Beach Blanket Babylon!

Lastnight a whole crew of us Bloggers got to go see Beach Blanket Babylon! (Thanks Kevin!) I invited Aubrey as my +1 & we made reservations at The House to catch up, eat a yummy dinner & have a glass of wine before the show. Fun!

I had actually seen the show about 6 or 7 years ago, but was looking forward to seeing it again, because I knew they'd have updated it to reflect current events & pop culture references... and boy did they! It's an understatement to say they've got a little of everything in this show. There were references that ranged from old news (Michael Jackson, N*SYNC & Brittany Spears, etc) to the very latest hot topics like iPods, Paris Hilton, Desperate Housewives and Devil Wears Prada. You never knew what would come out next, and the most entertaining part is how the hats & wigs just seem to get bigger & bigger as the show goes on! That's gotta be a fun job. :)

All in all it is an over the top, campy, slap-on-the-knee type of show that keeps you entertained from the moment you sit down, and even evokes the occasional "oh my!" from the occasional lewd reference. The performers put their all into it & the audience absolutely loved it... especially the 3 girls behind us - they were cracking up!

This show is a do not miss for your out of town guests or family visiting. Or even just something different for you & a date, especially considering it's a great reason to enjoy some yummy food & wine in North Beach while you're at it! Oh, and speaking of wine, it's cabaret style, so you can drink the whole time while watching the show, too. Might explain while the girls behind us were having such a good time. haha.

I unfortunately couldn't stay for the tour, but it's been fun checking out everyone's photos with the cast on Flickr! Thanks again to Kevin & the Beach Blanket Babylon crew for having us!

celebrating independence

I drew this a few years ago... I love the little dog the most:

Even though I've been invited to a ton of BBQ's, I think I knew from the start I didn't want to go anywhere today. Today is *mine all mine* & I'm loving it!

After a great workout @ the gym I went & got a mani/pedi, and now I'm home taking care of bidness! Actually not any client stuff (except preparing a long overdue invoice I've been putting off), instead I'm diving into my creative stuff! Oh ya, I guess I had told you all about that... that I had originally planned to work on it Sunday. But after cleaning my disaster of a house and taking a hike up the hill, I had just enough time to take a shower before Brian stopped by after surfing. Neither of us thought he'd stay that long, but he did & it was really nice. Granted I didn't get to dive into my projects, but I'm certainly not complaining as it was pretty nice to lounge around talking (and making out!) with a cute boy. hehe. It's fun getting to know someone new. I'm enjoying it, if you can't tell. ;)

Anyway, yesterday I worked & got a ton done & today is 100% my day. I absolutely love having a day to myself like this. All my clients/projects are all in a really good place, so I'm absolutely *reveling* in not being stressed. I'm celebrating my INDEPENDENCE! woohoo!

Funny because Ali just wrote a post saying practically the same thing - hehe!

Happy 4th, everyone!!

happy birthday to my momma!

Yes, my beautiful Momma has the fortunate birthday of July 4th - and every year there's fireworks and parties everywhere on her special day! What fun!!! :) I wish I could be with her this weekend, but I get to see her in just 10 days - yay!

me & my girls!!
Originally uploaded by Willo.

Brian took this great shot of us girls after the (awesome) Band of Horses show, on the way to The Page. It's so great of us & makes me miss Misty already! She's leaving town for 3 whole weeks. I mean fun that she gets to go to Hong Kong & Korea & all... but 3 whole weeks! ak! Makes me wish I gave a big ol' power hug like Ali did, to say goodbye that night! But I guess it wasn't really sinking in at the time that I wouldn't see her for a few weeks... or maybe I was trying to do the whole 'ok, see you soon' to try to make it not so sad. Anyway... these are my girls and I love them so!! :) TEAM FABULOUS!

More photos from this night are coming soon... i just have to work for a bit first today! :p

tivo in the summertime

The prime time lull of summer has made my little TiVo so empty I never even turn on my TV or *look* to see what's waiting anymore because I'm sure it's empty. Instead I have resorted to watching parts of DVD's in bed (w/ my new spare iBook - thanks Haylie & Mom!) until I get sleepy. I say parts of DVD's because usually I would watch a quick episode of Scrubs or something at night to unwind, but with a DVD/movie, it's so long I have to watch it in parts. So far I've done this with movies like Freaks & Geeks, Constant Gardener, Shark Tale, and Chicken Little. < I have about 20 minutes to go on this one. It's pretty cute - and way fun to hear Zach Braff's voice on the little chicken & Joan Cusack as his little ugly duckling friend! :)

Anyway, the good news is Hez just wrote a post about what she thinks is fit to TiVo right now... or in her case FauxVo. hehe! Thanks Hez! I totally have been needing some new shows!

Any other suggestions are welcome!

UPDATE: For those of you who are interested, here's a site that publishes a What to TiVo list every day! I subscribe to the RSS feed (that link might only work for safari users).
