Also posted are photos from the Continental/Heavenly States show we hit on Thursday night. Oh, and some more of Mr. Fuzzy Pants himself :) I even have a few videos of him going crazy over his mouse if anyone's interested. I emailed the link to his die hard fans :p

UPDATE: Photos posted from 4 different shows - Kings of Leon, Scissor Sisters, So So Many White White Tigers and Erase Errata

rock your body

Wednesday night, my girls Hez, Misty, Jem & I rented out a studio in SOMA and rocked out! It was sooo much fun. My first time setting up a drum kit all by myself, the first time playing with other people not to mention the first time anyone but my drum teacher seeing me play! It was GREAT!

We (they) chose to play Rock Your Body by Justin Timberlake. I had never even heard the song, and was laughing at the idea, but everyone raves about his new album - and actually that song has a pretty funky beat! The drum part was pretty easy for me to learn, albeit I sorta tossed out the 2nd bar that had this crazy bass drum part that was a little too complicated for my level :) but I'll get there!

Hez & Misty had played a few songs together before so they would play those and Jem did really good about picking up the chords for it on the spot. Jem won't tell you for months after you meet her (haha) but she's been in a couple bands and has been playing for years. She's destined to be a rockstar!

So ya, overall it was just so fun to play and goof around. We took some vids & photos, wanna see? I'm kinda excited to show my friends (and my momma :) the vids of me drumming, since they might normally ever see me play for who knows how long. Granted, I realize I'm totally new - but to me it's way exciting even to have these beginner skills. I wanted to drum for so long and I get absolutely giddy behind a set, so it's fun to feel like I'm getting better!

We'll be playing again soon, minus maybe Misty who's headed off to Korea for a few weeks... but we're all pretty excited to play together and learn some songs and mess around... there's no better way to learn! Plus, who wouldn't want to be trapped in a small room with these 3 hottie girls? :p

WOW!!

Jeff just showed me the coolest thing: Amazon has these photo directories, so you can basically walk down a block and check out the restaurants! Want to eat at Suriya Thai (really yummy, near my house), check out what it looks like! Use the Yellow Pages search in the left to find the restaurant you're looking for. They're still matching up the photos to the locations, so you can help them out if you are familiar with the area. Either way - this is neat! (Read here how they did it, and what cities have it.)

independent film

These movies look good:
I also want to see The Woodsman, A Very Long Engagement and What the Bleep Do We Know? All of these movies are playing at Landmark Theatres in San Francisco.

Anyone see any of them yet?

:::

As for bigger boxoffice movies - I still haven't seen (but want to!):
  • Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
  • The Polar Express: IMAX 3D Experience
  • The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
  • In Good Company (might be a rental)
  • Closer - which I'm seeing tomorrow night at The Parkway in Oakland with Lucia! And then racing back here to hit Kings of Leon (ticket pending :)

Wednesday, January 26, 2005

Do you have 2 Kings of Leon tickets?

stupid me didn't buy my tix and now it's sold out! garrr!

Can anyone sell me 1 or 2 tickets to this show? It's Friday night at Slims.. and even 1 is fine cuz I only care about myself - muahahhaaa. (Just kidding, 2 would be cool cuz I do know of someone else I could wrangle into joining me.)

THANK YOU in advance! :)

P.S. My show calendar is updated (FINALLY!):
http://calendar.yahoo.com/sillywillo

I'll warn you it's slanted towards shows I'm interested in, so if you don't see something on there it's because I've already seen them, don't want to see them or don't know who they are. Let me know if I'm missing anything 'not to be missed'.

you wish you were a sweater model, huh?

I can't seem to find where I can find a "buy" link for this awesome Orange Peel Milk sweater. That Leslie is such a tease! And she's BRILLIANT. Shit, looks like art school did somebody good! haha Be sure to check out her beats!

photos and mac/firefox nerdery

Have you seen my photos on Flickr? As you can see, I don't use it much, as I use Fotki for all my photo needs, but it's a REALLY awesome site, and an absolutely impeccable example of the brilliant ways you can use flash!

Anyway - another fun thing on flickr is to check out all the tags. See all the photos under the "willo" tag? There you can see Eric posted a shot of us using the iSight tonite :) We virtually geeked out!! :) It was awesome. Also in there are a few shots Jason Shellen took of me at MacWorld05 that are really cool, because his camera is so NICE!

Oh, so Eric's shining tip of the day for me was to solve my problem of wanting to have the finder window expand all the folders in it at once... and ta-da! He *enlighted* me that you just select the ones you want to do that with (in my case Select All) and hit the command with the arrow right or arrow left. YAY! I often want to cut & paste contents of my iTunes folder - or of a folder of artists/albums I've put on a disc. This is exactly what I needed!

::::

Recently I was realizing my Firefox was *really* buggy - so I exported my bookmarks and started brand new! And it's FABULOUS!!!! Muuuuuuuuch better. So then tonite I got extensions happy - as I knew there were a bunch out there I didn't have yet - and I have GOT to tell you about The Coolest Extensions for Firefox! :)

  • Auto Copy - Often the only time you select text on a site is to copy & paste it somewhere else. This automatically copies whatever you select to the clipboard. I'm not sure I can stop my hands from doing the apple+c anyway, though :)
  • Dictionary Search - I had this on my previous Firefox installation and I use it ALL the time. Love it.
  • ColorZilla - this is RAD if you're a Web Designer! Quickly grab hex#s, or the width of an object on a web page! FYI a paid tool of this nature, that looks pretty sweet, is XScope
  • Download Statusbar - instead of the downloads window in Firefox, it's in a small bar at the bottom of your Firefox window. Very cool if you're like me and you get sick of either having the download window in your way, or what not. This keeps it all within the same window.
  • Copy Plain Text - For Web Designers like me that just need the text sometimes and want none of the formatting that is associated with it. (often depends what you're pasting it into, but handy if it comes up to not have to first paste it somewhere else, copy it again & THEN paste it where you need it... you dig?)
  • downTHEMall - THIS IS THE COOLEST THING EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So say you want to go to a band or a label's site and download all the MP3's they're offering up (linking to). This does that!!! Do what I did and add a filter called "Music" and put the file type .mp3 in there & then when you hit the downTHEMall link again, select it as your filter & it will *automatically check all the mp3's* (SO COOL!) and you hit download & wala! I even have it set to notify me when it's done - that way I can go import them into iTunes and listen away! :)
  • GooglePreview - When I saw this I just *had* to try it.. And it's cool!! Instead of having to click over to a site, you get to see a little thumbnail of it right there on the search results page! NEAT!
  • Sage - I haven't tried this out yet, but found I don't use my BlogRolling list anymore since it doesn't seem to work as a sidebar on mac - so I'm looking forward to checking this out!
  • TinyURL Creator - I heart tinyURL's.

fantasies

I meet a man who is: sexy, athletic, quick-witted, open minded, music loving (of course), creative, FUNNY (funny is a must for me), taller than 5'10", loves animals, is good with kids, has an entrepreneurial mind and a good paying career, relatively fashionable, did I mention loves music? (preferably near the range I like and wants to hit live shows), fabulously geeky (aka knows his way around the internut and a computer), emotionally stable, and loves to have fun.... and he wants to:

  • Swoop me up & take me to The Sundance Film Festival this weekend. I've never been & it sounds fun!
  • Join me for SXSW in Austin, as he too needs a cohort to go out all night doing what we both love to do best: drink beer and watch live music! and then sleep in to do it all over again the next day. AND he would love to hit the Interactive and/or Film part with me too.. AND money isn't too much of a concern (we're fantasizing people!)
  • Join me on one of my escapades overseas!
(more of my "what I'm looking for in a man" are listed out in the comments)

traveling willsters

Emailing w/ my friend Lane today about SXSW, I was telling him how I might forgo that trip this year and spend that money getting my ass overseas (FINALLY). It's been too long since my last trip to London/Spain in '98 (!) and since I hit shows all the time here, and don't exactly have a true show buddy to join me in Austin, like I did last year.. I am thinking: TRAVEL!

So Lane asked where is it I would go, which was great cuz it made me write it down. Again, I would love to find a good travel buddy - so we'll have to see what shakes out there - but I'd say these are at the top of my list:

Brazil
Japan
Amsterdam
Greece
Ireland
Thailand
Indonesia

2nd tier:
Turkey
Italy
Paris
Vietnam
Africa (somewhere)
Central/South America (somewhere)
Australia or New Zealand

I LOVE Spain, but already went there, so I need to hit a few more countries before I can go back :) However, I also want to make a trip to NYC and Toronto - and Vancouver! And New Orleans - and I've never even been to New England, Boston or the Grand Canyon!!

Umm ya.... why again aren't I independently wealthy yet so I can just travel ALL the time? :)

Dance To The Underground from the album "Live At Southstreet Seaport, NYC, 13.08.2002" by Radio 4

Things are good here today in WilloLand

I've been pretty sick this week, but amazingly my spirits are very, very high. I'm feeling great about life! woohoo!! Pretty wild really, when I haven't had a voice for 2 days, and I'm hacking up... well, you get the idea. Through it all I've been giddy and truly enjoying every minute of my pajamarama party I've been having here in the comfort of my sweet little home. yay for homes!

Alright, so besides some work.. I've been playin around with some more iTunes "now playing" goodies. I checked out Kung-Tunes (thanks leen!), but it looks like it has sort of died and the wave of the future is in AudioScrobbler. However lastnight, when I was messin around with it all, I was listening to 97X (streaming radio) and since it's not sending out correctly formatted songs in iTunes, AudioScrobbler would accept it. Which sucks, really, cuz I'm listening to a lot of great tracks through them! And also that means it wouldn't work with my other fav internet station, Bagel Radio. Total bummer! I probably listen to streaming radio a good 3 days/week, so it's a bummer it won't report that - but oh well!

Alright, so Kung-Tunes doesn't care about the reporting, so it would at least report that I was listening to the station (which is placed in the song title field), so then I was thinking maybe I'd craft up some PHP include to display my last 5 songs on my site. And then I tried to do that with the AudioScrobbler for awhile, too... and basically I'm too much a geek for my own good here. I want it, but I want it to be customized the way *I* want it. And after trying a couple things and not having them work, and then trying a couple more things and not having them work - and being a total newbie PHP person - long story short, I looked back at my pretty AudioScrobbler page and said, aah to hell with it - that's good for now. So without further ado - check this page out to see what I've been listening to!!

:::::

So guess what?!?! Me and my girlfriends are getting together at a recording space and playing tomorrow night!! My friend's Misty & Hez on bass and Jem on guitar and me rockin the drums!! Kick ass, huh? I'm STOKED. Unbelievably we're going to play Justin Timberlake's Rock Your Body. HAHAAA! I had never heard the song before downloading it & grabbing some tabs for it, but it's got a pretty funky beat. I'm excited to just play with these hottie girlfriends of mine. It'll be the first time I've played with anyone else - let alone having anyone else *see* me play besides my drum teacher!! Should be fun!!

I also made a quick CD of other songs that would be fun to learn the drums on. Most indie music type songs are relatively the same beat structure, so I've got that down pretty good, and I have been practicing doing fills and some open high hat "accents" (for lack of a better term), and it's been fun! I totally feel like I'm getting better and am so psyched because recently had that big huzzah of "oh my god, if I commit myself to learn something and go for it - I can actually learn it and get better!" hahaa I know that sounds simple, but faced with this challenge I was sure I would never get it, ya know? So it's so incredibly kick ass for me to feel like I'm making progress. YAY!

At the time of this post, my iTunes was playing:

shopping tip...

"Did you know that Macy's has a Visitor's Center on the 6th floor of the Union Square store? If you are from out of the Bay Area, you can go to the center, present them with a hotel key, or an out-of-state driver's license, and you'll get a visitor's card good for 12% off any purchase! Who knew? Such a great deal!"

off my friend trina's blog :)

one more geek item

After loosing a post this morning, my friend Jeff recommended I use Ecto - and I'm so glad he did!

I had tried this out before, when Eric recommended it, but I can't remember why I didn't like it at the time (was it this one that didn't have a title field?) Anyway, now they've updated a ton and have the title field and much more - it's awesome!!! So easy to make links - and there's even an iTunes script! Look! (I'm actually listening to 97X streaming radio)

Now Listening to: The Mooney Suzuki - Alive & Amplified

my new cell phone!!

I know, I've been geekin out a lot today - but I just have to show off my new cell phone to ya'all... (like I did w/ everyone saturday night at the bar since it was so brand new :) GEEK!)

It's the LG PM-325 (click here for photos & details) and it's super small & light! I'm not a huge fan of it's blue-ish color, but whatever - this puppy is LIGHT YEARS ahead of my old dinosaur (that recently, when I showed it to people, I had started to have it walk on the table and raawwrrr like a big old dinosaur. haha!). This one is nice & teeny - which means I can fit it in my back pocket when I go to shows (a requirement for all my gadgets lately! I go light: small phone, small camera & my money/ID and I'm set!). I wouldn't even take my old phone into shows after awhile cuz it was so big & bulky.. and when I would, I'd have to put it in my jacket and it would proceed to fall out ever 10 minutes. Have I told you how happy I am to have a small light phone? :)

I can finally text message now, too!! My old one was riding the short yellow bus on the whole SMS deal. I can't tell you how stoked I am to finally have my cell phone be as up to date and technologically savvy as the rest of my toys :)!

Sadly, the bluetooth on this apparently isn't compatible w/ mac - so I can't do the synching, but it's ok.. already there's so many bells & whistles that I didn't have before, so that's the least of my worries. Plus, I will *finally* be done w/ my sprint contract in November - so I just may take my number and run to another company who wants to offer me a better deal with the latest & greatest tiny phone that's out then. Either way - I've officially stepped out of the cell phone stone age and I am STOKED!

oooh, p.s. this has a bill tip calculator on it! it's awesome! i can't wait to go out to dinner!

testing out the powershot SD300

So, as I mentioned before, I've got this sweet little camera on loan to try out & see if I like it before buying (which is SOO cool).

So far I love the photos from it. All of the photos in the last 3 albums (below) were all taken with this, so you can check out the quality for yourself. I've been putting it through quite the test since forever I've wanted an Elph (the S400), but that one's a bit bigger and now all the Elph's are going in this direction of being super small like this.

I have really enjoyed how easy it is to change the ISO and exposure/metering/flash/etc while shooting - it's very intuitive and takes the photo very fast (no lag time). The video capability is sweet too cuz it'll go as long as your memory card has room for, instead of limiting you to 30-60 seconds like most others do, so I think that's pretty sweet.

Wanna buy it?
- Find the best price for the Powershot SD300 via DCResource.com
- or Amazon: Powershot SD300 (my amazon referral link)

However, note that a little bird told me a new SD is coming out very soon :) So you just may want to wait for the latest & greatest hittin the shelves in about 30-60 days. (which is what I'm going to do :)

crafty

I had been wanting to make magnets for a long time, and finally did. They could have turned out a little better, because I got a little sloppy after awhile, but it was fun to do while eating pizza, drinking beer and watching sex & the city at jem & tania's last craft night :)

(note all images were cut out of magazines, next time they'll be my illustrations)

the super, super latest

yay! i sold my nikon 5700 & fisheye lense today! WAHOOO!!! to a really pretty girl who is new to the city - she is happy, I am happy.

yay #2: I got a new cell phone - FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yay #3: but should be first cuz it happened first: I am testing out a new Canon Powershot Digital Elph SD300!! Trying out? YES! How lucky am I? Those credited will go unnamed so he doesn't get a gazillion emails requesting similar generosity :) .. I will just say I am a VERY blessed person (not to mention uber technology geek - insert more geekoutness about new cell phone) to have this little puppy in my hands to "try out". THANK YOU J.K.! xoxooxoxoxoxo

yay #4 (and then it's off to bed): Yay to Lucia for throwing a fantastic party tonite at the Albatross, and for one of my bestest friends, Jem being the "DD" in her brand new SUPERHOTT wheels, and to meeting new cool peeps and spending time with awesome people.

Only 1 "boo": I practically lost my voice tonite. There was a fireplace in the room we were sitting - aka sucking all the oxygen out of the room!! And therefore between that & the beer(s), my chest was like WHA? and my voice is practically gone - but hey! Nothin like a fun night to show for it. :)

More tomorrow... with photos from a new kick ass camera & everything! night!

(piano) kelli, kelli, kelli, kelli...

Last week I got an email from my old friend, Kelli Beane (now Marovish), who has apparently been reading my blog for awhile now and finally decided to email/say hello after seeing my post about making cupcakes (and my reminiscing about making brownie mix w/ her & us practically eating it ALL :). I was so surprised to hear from her! And in my email back to her I told her it was all I could do to leave out the fact that it was often accompanied by us watching Beaches over & over & over and bawling our eyes out. :p hahaa There it is people! heh... I'm sure we weren't the only girls in the world doing that in '89.

So, since the last time we talked/saw eachother (uhh, I have no idea when... '97 maybe?), she has gotten married and had a baby! oh my! (Kelli, I hope you don't mind me spilling this on here :) just tell me if so & I'll take it down). I'm really happy for her & am absolutely blown away hearing all about the life changes she's gone through.

Kelli & I were absolutely inseparable best friends from 8th grade through our senior year, and although we had some bumpy times during those 5 years, it got REALLY bumpy after HS, to the tune of us not talking anymore. But whatever happened during those years, I say bygones... as may we all forgive and forget what we did through some of those crazy years. Plus, I don't even know who the woman is these days - several years later - and nor her I... all we know is that we used to care about eachother very much and I think we always thought we'd be a part of all these major life changes (that she's going through: marriage, baby) together. Funny how our lives take us down different paths than we think they will! So, it's been very, very cool this last week to reconnect with her and learn about where her life is now, as she has had *quite* the advantage as far as keeping up on my life! :p

For a long time the bitterness I had about losing her friendship, made me not want to give credit to what we had... but honestly, our friendship was one that I think I have always subconsciously held all of my girlfriend relationships up to. We were the BEST of friends.. absolutely inseparable "Willo and Kelli/Kelli and Willo", and the memories of all the crazy times we had together are still held very dear in my heart. Everything from our first concerts, first loves, first cars, first times trying smoking, drinking and drugs (shh!). Learning how to snowboard when we were 12, taking road trips, throwing parties while her parents were out of town, playing Super Mario Bros until the wee hours of the morning... :) I often liken our friendship to that of a 'relationship' in terms of the intensity of our love for eachother. And how, consequently, we had our hearts broken a few times during the rollercoaster ride through our tumultuous teen years (often followed by one of us coming back crying, realizing we couldn't be apart and then becoming best friends again). But, despite all the tough times, I will never forget how close we were for awhile and how much we shared during those incredibly tender years of figuring out who the hell we were.

I'm very glad you (finally) emailed to say hi, Kelli. Although I'm not quite sure our friendship will ever be where it once was, I'm very glad to at least be caught up with where you are in your life, see photos of your little family, and know you're out there supporting me right back... just like we always thought we would be. xoxo

geek love...

  • I am loving how easy it is to change icons in iChat! I've been a long time user of Adium now, and rarely use iChat. But lately I've started to use it to connect to AIM, in order to receive files from another iChat user (as for some reason Adium isn't so hot at receiving files), and the occasional iSight video chat w/ Haley (my 13 yr old sis) & Joe (her 11 yr old buddy, President of the Willo Fan Club, and child prodigy of the web world). :)

The BEST part about the whole changing icons deal in iChat is that not only is it really easy to change them quickly - but that it gives you a list of your recently used icons! So if anyone was watching my icon tonite, they saw me go kinda icon happy :D Now I've got a good surplus to switch through!

  •
  • I also added "Now Playing" status to both my Adium & iChat! woohoo!! I'm considering having it update somewhere on my site too, does anyone do that already & recommend what widget I should use for this? Otherwise I'm sure I can look it up later..

moving on...

a great quote my friend Jenny (DJ ShOOey) forwarded to me this morning:

"We cannot discover new oceans until we have courage to lose sight of the shore." - Andre Gide

i survived the tornado...

that was last week! wowie! I can't believe it's already Wednesday... sorry I haven't updated in forever. Last week was pretty insane.. I don't really know how it happened, but between MacWorld, and the pile of work and (exorbitant amount of) emails I was under, it was quite a whirlwind!

So, as to not blab on about the work stuff (besides to tell you that some really fantastic opportunities that have been coming my way), I will spill the fun stuff:

I have been busy going to shows (finally coming out of my hermit cave) and last week was CHOCK FULL!

First, Wednesday night Jem and I hit the Tsunami Benefit Show at 12 Galaxies w/ 12 bands: Call & Response, Jolie Holland, Loquat (who I love), The Herms, Mark Eitzel, Bart Davenport, the Bellyachers and more.. it was soo fun! Somehow I ended up closing down Doc's Clock's next door with a new friend. A wild, fun Wednesday night.

Then Thursday night, Jem & I hit Arcade Fire at GAMH - who I saw at BoTH in December, and they were JUST as amazing this time - if not more. They're sooo good live!!

Friday night was a great lineup at Cafe Du Nord: Ex-Boyfriends, Oranger & The Thermals. ROCKIN - and what was really fun is I knew like almost 20 people there! Oh, and before hand I had drinks at the LAC with Omar*, Lyne, Jim and one of their friends. And then Taylor** & Heather showed up and we went for a yummy dinner at We Be Sushi!

* Check out Omar's awesome illustrations: OmarLee.org - He's published in Ready-Made this month, if you have a copy!

** Check out Taylor's awesome Calder-esque mobiles and his 3D short film: taylor.mahony.org And for all of you who I went to HS with - Taylor is cousins with Molly Fletcher! wild, huh? :) Also his brother is in Hijack the Disco, who I saw play a couple months back and they're excellent. Check em out!

Saturday I met up with THE Sarah Hatter and her friend Shannon and we had a tasty brunch at Grind in the lower-haight. Then we went shopping!! I never go shopping, and it was much needed. Total retail therapy! awww yaaa! :)

Then, I stayed home Saturday night to save myself up for Sunday night's show: The Lovemakers and Gold Chains at The Hemlock! Which was sooo incredible, I danced my booooooty off!!! :) It was eeexcellent.

::::

So by Monday night I had finally caught up with all my emails and work from the previous week (phew!) and now wouldn't ya know it, I feel like I'm coming down with a cold. I hate colds!!!! I have a big get together to hit Saturday night & I will be A#1BUMMED if I am not feelin good for it. COLDS ARE STUPID! I have been sooo healthy for so long, which I attribute a lot to not working in an office where there's germs everywhere. So I can just imagine that going to all those shows (and my friend Misty was even sick who I chatted with on Friday night) that that may have done it. Well, and the final kicker being getting only like 6 hours of sleep on Monday night after staying up late and working.

I slept in a bit this morning, and since a few FT jobs have been offered to me here lately, I had all these dreams about how I *so* could not do a FT job right now. I love way too much that I #1. Can set my own schedule and work from 12-8 (or 12-12 as it often is) and #2. I don't actually have to get up, shower and commute somewhere looking presentable :) haha.

Lucia was in my dreams a ton... she was at this job I got, but also was staying with me or something, so we both accidentally slept-in and then had to stress & get ready since it was already like 11:30am. Random things were in this dream, like Lucia and I had actually fallen asleep talking, and when I woke up I still had a wine glass in my hand and the light was on. haha! Another random thing was that the shower was like a room bigger than my kitchen. All tile and I was stoked they had Finesse. ha!!

Upon arriving at this new office, I was trying to pitch to the marketing team that we needed to print postcards to get the word out about the zoo (?)... and then there was this whole part about me wearing these fake boobs that felt and looked real, even though you could take them off and on. So it was like you could wear Carmen Electra's boobs for the day. haha! But then they sorta didn't look so good up close, so any time I showed anyone, I stood back far so all the edges would blend & they would look real. I know, weird. There was a bunch of stuff about parking, not getting tickets, and even one of the managers showing us the door to where the closest McDonalds was and asking us to pick him up something (when in fact we thought he was going to scold us for being late).

I saw my old friend Justyn (still in my dream), who lives in Nashville now & I miss dearly, and he had shoulder length bleach blond hair. Rick was around, and I wanted to go talk to him - but he was avoiding me as to not feel the pain. (sort of related to how he's not been going to these shows I've been hitting lately, since he knows I'll be there :( it's just hard right now, I suppose).

:::::

Alright, enough about my dreams - this week is awesome so far (minus the stupid possible cold onsetting), and I hope to update my show calendar ASAP! It's horribly out of date - last week while going to those shows none of them where even on there yet! It's bad - I gotta work on that.

One random thing I did was export a list of Artists/Albums on my HD. Check it out.

:::::

Tonite is my BAMboozled meeting, and then Jem & I have tix to RTX at BoTH, but I'm so not into going, as it's my #1 mission to kick this cold before it grabs hold... so I may just go and get her in - listen to a few songs & then leave to come home and SLEEP. Also on my agenda is drinking MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF WATER. I will. not. be. sick. dammit! Happy Hump Day everyone...

cupcakes, kids, books and brothers..

- lastnight I made cupcakes at 11:15pm. Part of my 'healing process' you know. Honestly I was bummed I didn't have brownie mix... as there's nothing like a spoonful of that chocolate uncooked goodness to heal a broken heart. My high school best friend, Kelli, and I used to eat it all the time. mmmm... brownie miiiiiiiix. BUT, I made cupcakes instead... and they turned out quite well for not having 1 of the 3 eggs, and having to use olive oil instead of veg. oil. I was worried, but they came out fine. Funny thing was - today when I went to have one there was a big chunk of egg shell in the middle of the one I bit into. Considering I only had 2 eggs in there, I think it's safe to say I got the *one* that had any egg shells in it, but thank goodness it was me instead of my drum teacher who I just gave 2 to this morning. :)

- under "INTROSPECTIVE" in this post by mimi smartypants, she touches on some of the fears I have about how hard it would be to have children. I've been reading her blog a lot and really enjoy it... she's funny. My friend, Lucia, turned me onto it, who's blog I have also been keeping up with.

- this book looks fascinating. is this like "collective consciousness"?

- I don't think I told you - but it was SO GREAT seeing my brother last Sat. night. Him and his girlfriend, Samara, where up here for the Fashion Mart show, showing his Om Gallery goods. We all had a few beers here & then went out to Emmy's for dinner. I hit it off with the hott bartender girl and we all sat around drinking wine and enjoying the DJ. I heart Emmy's!! Afterwards I wanted so bad to drag them out to a show. There were FOUR excellent shows and I'm sad to report I didn't get to one of them. Max & Samara were wiped out from work that day and had to get up at 7am the next - so they prepared me it was going to be a low-key night for them from the start. I considered going to a show w/o them, but since my place is so small - I didn't feel right stumbling in later... so we had a little mini after-party here and then went to bed. (they stayed on my new futon & said it's comfy - woohoo!) The next day we all got up early and later on me & my friend Lyne went down to say hello and check out their booth. Max and Samara are the cutest, sweetest couple together and I am so happy for them. It was great to reconnect and I look forward to going down there or having them up here again soon.

macworld!

I went to my *first ever* MacWorld Expo yesterday! :) I haven't even hit my 1 year anniversary of having my titanium loverboy, but I've definitely turned into a fan of Apple products. Granted, I still remain somewhat level about the two, because PC's are still fine machines that have a lot to offer in and of themselves, and I am now well aware they BOTH do their fare share of crashing (because they're both computers after all, duh)! That said, I think I was meant to be a part of this community and am feeling quite at home surrounded by my new {equally as geeked on apple's ingenious, beautiful technology} friends.

Yesterday, shortly after getting there, I ran into my friend Jeff Keller of DCResource (that I redesigned and it launched last year - however because I'm horribly behind on my website updates, you won't find it in my portfolio yet... tsk tsk on me!). Then, moments after we parted, just before I was about to ring to ask "where are we meeting again?" I ran into the Google/Blogger boys: Eric, Jason, Biz and Jason. Which naturally happened effortlessly, because of the circadian rhythms (as Eric would say :p).

So we all met up with "the others" for a mass group-o-bloggers-lunch trek to Specialty's Deli. Yummy sandwiches and even yummier cookies in hand, we marched over to Yerba Buena to eat, geek, and enjoy the spot of sun that chose to come out for the exact 30 minutes we were there. Yay!! There was some group shots taken by others with cameras (I didn't have mine, as that was one of the things stolen recently *weeps*), but I no worries, as with this crowd there were at least 5 snapping away. It's well documented w/o my help! huzzah!

I met a lot of new people I didn't know - and some I only had known of.. and got to catch up w/ Mai (who I know through her being Chris W's girlfriend) and talk music, which is of course - one of my favorite topics. :)

Update: Tons of photos on flickr of our blogger lunch. Tags: bloggerlunch, macworld and mwsf05. More to come as I find them posted...

::::::

After lunch Eric, Ryan, Skylar and I all milled about the Expo, checking out all the booths. It was really nice to hang with these boys. I couldn't help but feel such a mutual respect between all of us that was so refreshing... I can't stand meeting people that are "too cool for school" - and all these guys are solid, sweethearts that I would totally set my sister up with (that is, if I had one around my age).

The expo is just a bunch of booths selling you stuff, but there definitely were some that peaked my interest. Namely: Alias Sketchbook & Corel Painter.. I've had Painter before on my PC, but Sketchbook looks similar and worth checking out. I got 30 day trials of both and am looking forward to playing. I want a BookEndz dock baaaad (however quarterly taxes, Apple Care and replacing my stolen items are #1 on my $$ list for now). The solar powered attachment by Solio looked cool... and I enjoyed walking through the digital art gallery.

Apple's new iPod Shuffle doesn't excite me too much. Well, OK maybe a little... I'd dig having the 1GB for the gym I suppose. It's really small & light - and I figure, it probably couldn't hurt to have something with me that only costs $100 vs. $500-$600. However, I'm quite excited to get the 60GB iPod Photo next. Bring on the GB's of music, I say!! I was hoping they'd announce a 100GB iPod or something, but not yet! haha. They did however announce the SWEETEST little Mac Mini that I'm stoked about. This allows people who have always said mac's are too expensive, to now get in on the fun! woohoo!

Well, because Monday flew by and yesterday was a wash of mac/blogger/geekout I must get to work!!

Oh hey - tonite I'm hittin this Tsunami Relief show at 12 Galaxies that has an incredible line-up. Apparently it's going to be really low key technically, and all the musicians will only play about 3 songs each - share instruments, go acoustic, etc. Should be great! However, if you go, show up early as I think it just might sell out. Hope to see you there!

Wow! A guy I grew up with in Steamboat, Andy Leroy, is on The Bachelorette tonite! Apparently* he gets the boot out in the first 10 (of 25 guys) tonite.. but still so cool he's on! How fun! Go Andy!! xoxo

*I know this because Dawna D. emailed me to ask for his email - and I think I might have it around here somewhere..

adorable..

oh baby, how cute are these little onesies!? I love the Drool onsie (using the class Doors' logo), the Rockstar barcode, and the Nutrition Facts - so cute! (except I would up the % on my babies rock & roll attitude :p)

movie review: Kinsey

Wednesday night after Bamboozled, I quickly headed over the bridge to meet some friends at the Parkway Theatre for a movie. Lucia (my devoted kitty sitter, and darling friend) arrived early to save us all some couches - but luckily Sabra (roommate from 6 years ago!) and her friend had arrived seconds earlier and scored us 2. woohoo!

We saw Kinsey, and it was GREAT!!! I whole heartedly admire Kinsey's mission to explore and uncover the TRUTH of sexual activity among humans. It is such an amazing science experiment really! And watching his brave fight against the elite and upper echelon of society, who are just plain out embarrassed and too afraid to take a stand for such thorough education and communication on such a daring subject.

The movie sheds a light on just how in the dark people were a mere 50 years ago, and although we've certainly come a long way - just how amazing it is that where we are now isn't much further along at all. At first you think, "Well, there are strip clubs and porn everywhere - and openly gay actors and relationships portrayed in theatre, movies and reality TV - so that must mean we've come a long way!" But then the reality sets in... and you look at the fact that there are not only people who refuse to recognize homosexual relationships as 'valid', but that our damned government actually FEDERALLY FUNDS ABSTINENCE ONLY SEX EDUCATION! Like it's the f*ing 1940's for christ sake!!!

Anyway, I think it's progress that a movie like this is out, shining a light on how ridiculous it is to think that not talking about sex at all is somehow going to help youth not be promiscuous or save us from chaos uprooting on our streets. Education is KEY and this movie is funny, heartwarming and beautifully freeing in terms of breaking the societal chains that bind us to what is right and wrong about our own sexual desires. I highly recommend it.

p.s. The movie is based on a true story. Visit The Kinsey Institute online!

must. find. happy. place.

Ha... less than 24 hours and I'm just sick and tired of being upset about anything at all. I can't wait to go workout tonite and SWEAT out some of these thoughts and be done with them.

In other news, I finally got a myspace account. woo. hoo.

I'm really looking forward to the Arcade Fire show in a couple weeks. I am missing hitting live shows and last Friday night's show at Bottom of the Hill rocked my world! Funny how I didn't post about any of that cuz I was so caught up in what happened after that.. but suffice to say it was a REALLY fun night! I met some awesome friends of Ted & Misty's.. one girl named Heather who lives close by & I'm hoping to hang out with her again and maybe craft it up!

I also got to see my drum teacher play w/ Kelley Stoltz - and then hang with him a bit afterwards. Great to reconnect w/ him since he's been on tour forever. We have a lesson tomorrow! woohoo!

Something else really fun is an old friend from art school (art institute in denver 1993), contacted me lastnight out of the blue! After 10 years! It was cool to catch up. I have thought of him a number of times and even thought I saw him once or twice but then it wasn't him. Anyway - I knew our paths would cross again some day, so I was glad he found me. (not hard if you google my name - ha!) It's been cool to see his artwork & have us both try to skim over what's happened in our lives to bring us where we are today.

gratitude

in order to offset some of this icky stuff.. i'll post 5 things i'm grateful for:

1. I'm incredibly grateful for my friends near and far that support and love me. Some of you I have known for 20+ years, and some of you for 10 and some of you for only a little over a year, and yet it seems like I've known you forever. Incredibly there are a lovely handful of you whom I've never even met in person, but your sweet emails and connection over these wires (and wireless in most cases :) have touched my heart and created a community for me in this internet space I never thought possible. Thank you!!

For the darling friends who look out for me here in San Francisco, thank you. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I have had a couple friends lately calling me to make sure I'm OK.. encouraging me to stop being such a hermit and getting me out, and every time I'm glad I did, and have met some really neat new people.

Thank you to my girlfriends who are calling me and sending me lovin, and even come over in the cold of night to give me a hug when I need one! Thank you!!

I sometimes feel like I don't have the group or the friend base that I thought I would have at this age.. but when I stand back and look at all those around me sending me their love and support.. it warms my heart. Thank you guys!!!

2. Wowie, hard to top that first one (I am really needing friends right now), but there's much to be grateful for in this rich life of mine. I feel so fortunate that I have my health. Thank goodness for the miracle of the human body to fight so hard to keep us alive every day despite some of the crazy things we put it through. Within this thanks I also must give big gratitude to the miracle of my new eyesight!!! It's amazing!!!!

3. I am so thankful for the business I've cultivated over the last year, and I'm so excited for this year ahead of me. I'm so thankful for the awesome, awesome clients I have. Each and every one of them has been such a joy to work with. I couldn't ask for a better career... I'm doing what I love and it's truly wonderful.

4. The safety and security of my little home and all the little things within it. This weekend I had some things taken from me.. and it's made me look around and recount and be grateful for everything I *DO* have. I love my little home and every little sweet piece of my life that it contains. It's my favorite place to be!

5. My family.. as much as family can be so taxing sometimes... and as much as I can (unfortunately) be so short tempered and frustrated (for not being able to help more in all that they're going through)... my family is always there for me. When I visited with my Mom & sister over the holidays.. every day - a couple times a day - my sister would come up to me and hold my hand. And I LOVED that!!! She's so full of love and she's got such a big heart. She gets it from my Mom, too.. who amazes me with her amazing gift of patience, overflowing love and generosity.

It's also meant the world to me to have my step-dad invite me back up to Steamboat, and have him be so loving and sincere about wanting us to stay connected.

My brother in Santa Cruz is awesome.. but right now I miss him like crazy and need to reconnect with him. But quite a timely post this is, because it's his bday today (1/3)!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MAX! xoxo

Overall family is an amazing thing. It's pretty heartwarming to know there's this small network out there who will always love you no matter what.

Friends, health, work, home, and family. Here I may have lost a few things this weekend that will cost me a couple hundred dollars to restore.. but to put it all in perspective, I send my love to all those out there who were robbed of more than 1 of these things when the Tsunami hit. My heart and thoughts are with you all every day.

wow...

2005 has already started off with a bang. One that put me in bed for most of the weekend and left me seriously needing a hug. Life sure knows how to throw some punches.
