sneakyvonsneakster: I try to post daily - but sometimes I don't post till I get home from being out so I sneak it in by making it 11:59... ok, here we go...
Today was a great day! I got up and headed downtown - something I haven't done in a long time! I had to go pick up some photos for a web project (actually mentoring a high school student, whose a
BAM member and aspiring web designer). After finishing that up I headed over to see the wall painting in a children's store in the Embarcadero. (It's owned by the same people I spoke to on Saturday about doing a
wall painting at their new store opening in Marin.) It was cool to see how this one was done - it's a totally different style, but the application of it was a clever idea I might try.
Then while downtown I headed over to visit my friend
David, who works at
Military.com a couple days a week. I got the full tour of the .com (one of the last around, AND they make money! whoa!). It was fun to see an office that still had it good like the ol' days. Slats of all different kinds of pop & juice - free food - and stuff everywhere like they're just so damn busy they haven't had time to organize it all better.
After pickin up a kickin burrito at El Faro for lunch, I finally came back home to chat w/ a few clients and take care of some business. Oh - and Matt came over to see
Kazoobie too! Kazoo was psyched cuz 'dad' brought him some yuuuummy treats, a new mouse and kitty grass! wahoo! (or should I say, purrr)
Tonite Rick & I hit
The Raveonettes show.
Kittens for Christian opened - and
Stellastar played between the two (whom we agreed probably took the cake out of the night actually). Raveonettes were good - didn't rock our socks off, just ok.. but good (not sure I'd need to see them live again anytime soon, but it was entertaining.) Stellastar's lead had a cool voice (almost Robert Smith meets David Byrne) - and they had a cool sound... total rockstar drummer that was actually pretty hot with his slick boy bare chest and sunglasses on. Very fun.
p.s.
my cat just did the most hilarious thing: rarely do I see him use his litter box, since it's in the bathroom behind the door (and actually this calls for a little more set up, so I'll tell you it's not only behind the door, but it's squeezed in this convenient little space between the wall & my clawfoot tub) so tonite a little after I got home I had to pee really bad... well, apparently he did too cuz he came trotting in behind me and stepped into his litterbox. then - the funniest thing... after he was done peeing, he climbs out of the litterbox the other way, and crawls under the tub (clawfoot, remember) to come out the front again &
then goes back to cover it up. quite the system he's got!
A'ight - gotta hit the hay now - tomorrow's a big day!! :)

I really wish I had a pop-tart right now. I LOVE pop-tarts. I know that they're not even food, really - as much as some man-made sugar + perservatives concoction, but damn are they good. And actually the fact that I am so aware they're so bad is the only reason I don't have boxes stacked up in my pantry right now. Every time I'm at the store and I see them, I contemplate buying just one box... but the reason I don't time after time is I just know that buying them means I'll eat them - and really I don't need one more thing I can snack on as I sit here on my ass all day. Plus, having a cold lately I've been skipping my hikes a bit more often - so adding a couple pop-tarts to that wouldn't help anything! hahaa
I did this same thing with Fig Newtons. I love Fig Newtons... and honestly I really had myself convinced that they were good for me.... but lately I've been starting to admit and accept that they're just as bad as cookies. Awhile back I bought a little lunch snack pack of them at the store, so I always had some around, could take them on the go and everything. But the snack packs make them come all long, like a two in one bar. Somehow they didn't taste as good that way. But I think it helped me get over my cravings for them a little bit.

Ya, I hate to say it - but I think I need to go buy myself some pop-tarts.
update: eewww. I just went to go look up pop-tarts online - and there's a bunch of gross new flavors. For the record, I just one the good ol' fashioned strawberry frosted ones. not that those aren't gross to some of you non-pop-tart lovers... but to me they're sooooooo good. :)

I think I had enough fun last week with my 4 shows in 7 days to last me all weekend. Well, that and I'm still getting over this cold - so I wasn't up for much but just laying low and getting better. I'm not sure how well that plan has worked though, cuz I still have a sore throat! It's mild though... the kind that just reminds me I need to be getting to bed at a decent hour. (hech hemm, like now!)
Friday night
Jane came over & we watched
Bottle Rocket. Damn, I love that movie! I hadn't seen in about a year - and all day Saturday I kept cracking up thinking about a few parts in the movie... Like when
Anthony meets Inez... and how when Anthony was supposed to be taking notes when they're scouting out the Cold Storage place, but when Dignan asks what he's working on, he shows him this whole little flip-book animation he's been drawing... and Dignan is all supportive (not even noticing he hadn't been taking notes). so funny...
Jane surprised me with a bag full of
Drawn & Quarterly's too! I am so excited (and happily returned the favor by doling out a few of my
favorite reads from my bookshelf.)
Since Friday night I've
already finished 2 of the ones she lent me, and am half way
through 2
others. I'm loving them (
Adrian Tomine's work is awesome). They're such a nice mental escape... they're quick reads, and the illustrations are wonderful to follow. I love seeing their line style, and how they've set the scene. They're very talented to have the skills to not only draw, but to also write and direct their stories out. I can just imagine it takes loads of time and serious dedication. I need to get myself to the next
Comic Book convention... I've missed 2 here already this year.
Saturday I went up to Marin & spoke with a store owner about doing a
custom wall painting for their new kids clothing store. I also (luckily, since it was Saturday!) got to touch base with the woman at the Daycare I'm scheduled to do a painting for, too - and got to see my friend
David & sweet little
Marissa &
Zach! yay!
Saturday night
Jee had us over for an amazing Korean dinner. Her Mom is in town and it was quite a treat to eat authentic home-made Korean food. It was also great to catch up with some of the "full moon girls" and meet Jee's cutie friends Patrick & Dave.
That leads us up to today. Despite it being Sunday, today was a full force work day for me, complete with going to get my new favorite coffee drink: A double-shot soy latte. YUM! Who knew I'd find a delicious combination that I don't even need to put cream & sugar in! It's so perfectly sweet & creamy on it's own - soo good! :) It's an
extra $1.50 over my normal cup ($1), so I try to only treat myself to it a couple times a week - that way it's extra special and fun too!
I should go out & move my car right now as they're starting some horrible construction tomorrow morning and they've posted signs saying we need to be moved by 7am (ugg!!) but it's so late I might just set the alarm early, move it & then come climb back in bed.
Which reminds me I need to get to sleep!! Night!

The
Hot, Hot Heat show lastnight was EPIC!!!!
Hai & I met
Kristin, Jem,
Sarah, and Rick in the lounge for pre-dinner & drinks. I was so psyched up for the show I could hardly contain it.
We skipped the opener's
opener and then went down for
the French Kicks. I was really psyched to see them as I've had their
latest CD for awhile now... but I have to say, they were pretty disappointing. The lead singer just came off really cocky - and their whole stage vibe wasn't doin' it for me at all. The few songs off the new CD that they played and I like, were OK, but still I was SO not into the vibe they had on stage - and overall it just isn't music you feel like jammin to. (can someone tell him to stop that tongue licking the side of his mouth thing? it's so not attractive!) So I give that a big 'eh whatever'. The album is fine to listen to at home, but I wouldn't go see them again.
Finally the moment had arrived... and we squeezed our booties up to the front as close as possible to prepare for HHH!!!! Rick and I were way up front - probably 4th row for most of the show - and soon joined by Kristin & Jem, too! We were surrounded by fans (all about 16 or 17. Boy, are we old or what?!) but as soon as the music started we were all one big cluster of raucous fans... dancing and singing and sweating and ROCKIN out to kick ass Hot, Hot Heat!!! Everyone was jumpin up & down so hard that the floor of the Fillmore was sinking under the pressure. I was sure it was going to break through taking all of us with it!
In the set, they played about 5 songs from their older record,
Knock Knock Knock (all of which were soo excellent that I can't wait to get the CD), and the rest were from
Make Up the Breakdown. Every single person in the audience was beltin out the lyrics right along with em - it was awesome!!
Despite my cold, I was still down to party with the best of em lastnight. However, there were times while raging in the 4th row - dancing, singing & sweating my ass off - that I was a tad afraid I was either going to pass out or that all my sweating was actually due to a 104° fever. I have mad respect for the lead singer,
Steve Bays for having the stamina to put his ALL into it & keep bangin out song after song with all his might. I was worn out just trying to keep up with him! The best was how rockstar he was when he shook his head and the sweat would just fly off his curly mop in all directions. Rock ON!! I can just imagine the man is beat after a show... but they showed no signs of it, as no doubt this is just one of many nights of hard core rock.
After closing their set with Bandages and having the audience go absolutely NUTS over it, it didn't take them long to come back out & stoke us with 2 more songs on the encore. As always we could have used another hour of it all, but the set ended after that - leaving us all standing in awe, drenched in sweat with big smiles across our faces. No doubt SF showed them a warm welcome! I can't wait to see them again.
here for more info on Hot, Hot Heat. And if they come to
your town - whatever you do, don't miss the show!!!
p.s. I'm feeling surprisingly good today - I think HHH HEALED ME!!

Does anyone need to set up a site w/ free hosting? I just signed up a new client on Doteasy, which means if I get two referrals, the $35 fee is waived. (
read more about this here)
I've actually already gotten one - so I just need one more. So if you want to sign up with Doteasy for free hosting, please
click here to sign up and when prompted for the site you'd like to give your referral credit to, please put:
http://www.blackdiamondshuttle.com
Since I only need one more, maybe you could let me know you're going to sign up & give me the referral - as once I have one more taken care of, I'd like referral credit to go to
my friend who just signed up (giving blackdiamondshuttle it's first credit).
Then if we get her 2, her transfer fee will be waived too! Quite a cool deal.
I know this can get confusing, especially if site hosting/transfering is foreign to you... but if you're looking to set up a simple site to get yourself started - or you have a client that just needs really basic hosting to get started (and doesn't want to spend $100+/year) than this is a great place to start.
Lemme know if you have questions.

My new music buddy Rick & I are on the same f*in wavelength when it comes to amazingly L-A-M-E it is that a lot of our friends are missing this ROCKING Hot, Hot Heat/French Kicks show tomorrow night. Between the 2 of us, we've gotten some pretty lame excuses from our friends. Oh well, their loss cuz this show is gonna be OFF THE HOOK awesome.
So - the saddest part that neither of us thought we'd have to deal with, is that we have extra tickets. If you're in the bay area and you don't want to be inducted into the Lame Hall of Fame - AND you know whats good for you to not miss the most ROCKIN show of this year (IMHO) you should
buy our tickets. You will NOT be dissapointed!!! It's going to be SO AWESOME!!! (did I already say that? ok, I'll stop, but seriously - don't miss it.)
p.s. to friends who I know read this and you know it's you I'm calling lame, please don't be mad. I'm more saaaaaaad that my close
dear friends who I know I would have a ROCKIN time with at this show and
who LOVE HHH just as much as I do won't be there to enjoy it with me. :( :( :(
i found this near my front gate when i got back from getting my morning coffee:
I'm definitely sick today. Full force cold, right here. I don't mind it for the most part - I'll nap a little today and then try to get to bed earlier tonite. But I need to cancel my camping trip for the weekend. That just wouldn't help anything. Bummer though, I was really psyched to go camping just ONCE this year!!!!
right after we arrived and got beers I ran into an old friend I hadn't seen in about 6+ years. wild to see him, as the last time I saw him I had just gotten out of a relationship - weird. we went to preschool with eachother apparently. our parents knew eachother and then we reunited in '97 when he was living down in san luis obispo.. it was WILD to see him. the first thing I thought was "what is he doing up here?!" when I said hello it took a while for him to register it was me (the whole short blond hair vs long brown hair now thing throws people off for a second). Once he did he FREAKED. His brother was there with him too, who the last I saw him he was so young and in high school.. now he's all 22 and quite hot. :p
the show was AMAZING. my knowledge on radiohead paled a dull shade of off-white compared to Stig's colossal erudition. he knew every single song's name, what album it was on and usually what track # it is on the disc. oy! now that's a fan!!! :) it was fun to hear him so psyched.
I was pretty mellow, having my cold & all - *achoo!* (I really did just sneeze as I typed this) but it was SOOO great to be at the show - surrounded by tons of fans. It's quite the phenomina these big shows. It's a whole different culture. I think I have gotten really spoiled by seeing all these AMAZING shows at the Fillmore, GAMH, Warfield, etc. Small venues kick ass. That'll probably be the last time I go to Shoreline. I mean, it was worth it & fun and all - but oy is it an experience of population overload.
The garlic fries were really good though. Oh - and one of my favorite songs they played tonite was
Wolf at the Door.

kazoo for all you fans of mr. fuzzy pants!!!)
> i have a bit of a cold. *achooo!!* but that won't stop me from seeing radiohead tomorrow night. oh no, you can't stop me!!!
> a countdown to thursday night...
this thursday might possibly be one of the most exciting days of my life. if my excitement could be expressed through these words, it just might blow up your computer. i'm going to stop there, or it just might!! oh, and if you don't know me and don't know what I'm TOTALLY freaking out about and counting down the days and hours until that fateful beautiful moment I've been waiting for... look over to the left on the calendar and find out. thursday night is going to RAAAAWK!!!!!!!!
goodnight.

Heather is doing a cool new lil project called
badge swap. here's mine:
lemme know if you get it! :)
be sure to
submit yours too!
I'm selling my office chair -
wanna buy it?
Why am I selling it? Because I got an
Aeron! woohoo!! For all the hours I sit at the computer, my ass deserves it!! :) (and no, I didn't just fork out the fat wad of cash these things cost. I got a secret deal, shhh)
Kazoobie apparently doesn't want me to sell it...
Lastnight I cleaned my house like craaaaaaazy!!! I'm so psyched cuz it's soooo clean!! I finally organized the
disaster of CD's that were sprawled everywhere, too. It's so nice to have everything all nice & neat! wahoo!!
Tonite is another Grill & Swill BBQ @
Jane's. However, this is a special SXSW edition, so should be a lot of cool peeps there from "the community". Too bad I feel like I'm coming down with a cold! So no beers for me, I'll stick to the lemonade tonite.
Look at how CUTE these are!! Mint milanos are my favorite cookies - and how damn cute is it that now there's a whole bunch of little baby milanos? I love it!!!
Yuuummmm!!!

(ok, sorry I started this lastnight but had to go to bed and am just finishing it up now)
Rainer Maria was excellent lastnight... I was SO THRILLED to finally see them live!!!!
The opener was listed as
Denali - who I had heard of, but didn't know anything about em, so when the first band came on we thought that's who were were listening to the whole time, but turns out it was
On The Speakers. They ROCKED! Cute lil' indie-rock boys - awesome music, kick ass drummer - very, very fun. I'd go see them again in a second and I am psyched to get their CD. I made a mental note to be able to drum like that when/if I ever take drumming lessons.
Oh wow - I just was reading up about them & On the Speakers leadman, Ian Sefchick is from Creeper Lagoon! I never really listened to that band, but it's good to know. (Indie-Rock Music Trivial Pursuit here I come)
Denali was just ok... I mean - very good, really - but between On the Speakers being so awesome & upbeat and my let down that Rainer Maria wasn't going on next after all, I was a tad dissapointed. Don't get me wrong though - the lead singer has a beautiful voice, really distinct... but
Jane & I decided that's what made every song sound too much the same. We both agreed it'd be GREAT to have on at home, but that until we knew the material, it was no fun live.
When Rainer Maria came on I was immediately out of my chair to rock - sooo happy!! I have been listening to them a ton since April (when I picked up bunch of their CD's at Ameoba) and so it was really awesome to finally see them play live! Her voice is really powerful and she has a really strong stage presence. They closed with Ears Ring, which is most definitely my favorite song (watch the new
video) and it was so on fire that I was dancing up a storm and beltin' it with her the whole way. SOO KICK ASS!!!
I also made a mental note to be able to sing that song well, when/if I ever take singing lessons.
I found this guy's site when I was lookin for info on On The Speakers, he's a music show photographer:
Mr. Dodgy
I can't wait to see this movie:
School of Rock!!
Also - I've made the Upcoming Shows viewable on my
yahoo calendar for those of you who want it mapped out that way. FYI there's a link to this calendar over above the schedule list.

OH MY GAWD did
SFA totally f*in' ROCK MY WORLD lastnight!!!!!! (had to delete about 20 other exclamation points that I typed... must. control. enthusiasm! :)
Mat,
Brendan & I arrived early so we could hit "the lounge" (the restaurant & bar on the 2nd floor of the Fillmore) for dinner and drinks. They have REALLY good food at the Fillmore, FYI! Don't be scared that you're gonna get just some regular ol' crap for that $10, it's WORTH $10!! Tasty cuisine by excellent chefs, beautiful display and all!
Kristin showed up a bit later and we all sat, ate, drank and enjoyed the lounge act,
Josh Fix & the Furious Force. They were pretty good... definitely good for the crowd of SFA/Grandaddy fans. Also to our delight we had an awesome
fireworks show going on outside the window too!
Unfortunately we were all too engrossed in conversation and yummy food/drink to peek at Earlimart playing. Ah well, will have to catch them at a smaller venue sometime.. I've heard they're good.
Ok - so now I get to the part where I will tell you how AWESOME SFA was!!!!!! I was LOVING IT!!!!!!! I couldn't believe how psyched I was to see them, how awesome they are live and how excellent the media was on the screen behind the band > at one point they had this awesome old cartoon playing during one of the songs, I wish I knew the name of it... it's that old b&w silent cartoon with the cows dancing and kissing and the cat bride & groom - where the groom accidently leaves the bride behind when he takes off in the rocket? sound familiar to anyone?
I actually was SOO into the music for SFA & Grandaddy, that most of the time I just closed my eyes... sometimes it's good to have that visual media along with it (and probably really good for those who aren't die hard fans yet to have something else to look at while they're soaking in the new music) but I just wanted to be with the music. It was soooooo awesome.
SFA kicked out some serious ROCK when they cranked up their final song,
The Man Don't Give a Fuck, for a good 8 minutes. We were all on FIRE. There was also this awesome b&w video going on behind that - The whole damn show was soooooo f*cking great I can't even tell you. They're soooo rad that they can be all mellow and beautiful and then rawk so damn hard. Also there's an aire of techo/synth going on that I normally wouldn't be into at all - but with them & Grandaddy I absolutely got off on it.
After the SFA set ended, Brendan I were just buzzzzing with how amazing it was - and we couldn't believe they were just the opener & we still had Grandaddy to see!!! What a night!!!
Grandaddy was AWESOME to see live. They're extremely talented and it was WONDERFUL to hear some of my favorites played live and see the whole crowd of peeps just as thrilled as I was. The crowd was on fire for their two latest hits
Now It's On and
I'm On Standby... I was singin along! They had EXCELLENT back drop visuals, too.... among some of the funky videos playing (some of which I just closed my eyes so I was fully with the music and not spacin out to the visuals) they had a ton of movies with kitties in them!! It's hilarious - I think they love cats!! aww yaaa Let's hear it for
cutie kitties!!! hahhaaa I, of course, was lovin it.
Scott showed up to join us right before SFA - and I was psyched to run into my coeditor of BAM,
Jake and his girlfriend, Amy. Oh! and my old neighbors (little kitty, Gladys' parents) from Lundy's Lane were there too.
It was a fantastic night.

Tonite starts my
week of terrific live shows!!
First up is
Super Furry Animals &
Grandaddy @
the Fillmore! I saw Grandaddy open for Coldplay about a year or so ago, but didn't know enough about them then.. but I've fallen in love with their new album
Sumday (and then regressed back to
Sophtware Slump). I'm also waay psyched to finally see Super Furry Animals play live - I have a feeling it will be a lot like seeing
the Flaming Lips live, where you just a whole new level of appreciation for them.
Earlimart is playing an early set, too, whom I haven't seen yet and have heard great things about - I'm PSYCHED!!
Speaking of music, I'm
still needing someone to join
me for Rainer Maria tomorrow night! :)

Updated 9/19: I'm using blogrolling.com now & so far so good. A big thanks to Eoin, Jeff & Chris for your helpful emails!!
hi.
I want to use something like
this, but all these words are a jumbly mess to me! Apparently I can set it up to tell me when blogs I read are updated? Very cool... but how!?
I'll look at it again tomorrow after a good night's sleep - but in the meantime if anyone wants to volunteer their brain to tell me how I can use it,
lemme know.
I know a lot of you think I'm knee deep in
taped-glasses land, but I haven't yet gotten into the full force geekdome if I haven't done this - just you wait! :)
ok sleeping now.

I want to own my own home so bad. Hearing my friend Phil talk about how they painted their new homes walls all kinds of crazy colors this weekend, it sounds so fun!
If you're a new homeowner, or have always dreamed of owning your own home... read this
touching entry on
AlextheGirl's weblog. (she's really cute too!)
I love finding new blogs - especially of girls around my age who are into the things I'm into... is that narcissistic? possibly. hahaa (justified: it's human nature to be drawn to people who we relate to.) Anyway - I've found a few of those lately where I read their blogs and just think, "wow, she seems so cool... we should hang out!" :)
Pretty fun that that is just what I did with
Jane - and now I'm good friends with a handful of
lovely ladies right now that are just that!
Girls are fun. New friends are fun! How did I start talking about houses and end up talking about how much I love my new group of girlfriends? :p Life is delightful and surprising and the best part is that there's always something new and exciting goin on. As some old co-workers of mine used to say:
Welcome to Willo's World.
another one:
SomaFM
The offer a couple different stations to listen to - and the best thing is, like KEXP, they post the
tracks they're playing! woohoo!
Kazoo & I were just sitting around thinking of ways we can rekindle our relationship. What's something fun we could do together? We should be active together... get out and experience something new! Like maybe take a
dance class! Or start
painting!
When we saw those we couldn't help but laugh ourselves silly. Kazoo started playing with some string and I cracked open a beer and we're still stuck in our same old patterns.

I know my blog has been soo much about music lately. jeez - I wonder if I should start a seperate site about music? hmm... it's a thought. anyway - I'm discovering new radio stations. I think I have really bad reception in my car, and most certainly on my
Rio - cuz I've never heard of this local radio station,
KUSF until recently. Where have I been? Obviously not listening to much radio with good reception. Go figure.
I discovered another cool station that streams on the internet, too:
KXLU
Obviously I need to make a place for info like this, because once
again I must remind you of one of the best stations that (fortunately) streams online:
KEXP
I'm starting to get into
The Walkmen (finally?). I'm sure I'm behind on this great find... are any of you out there big fans?
Tell me about em - are they great live?
Well, unfortunately I just missed them play two shows here. I was really close to getting out of my pajamas tonite and heading down to Slims for their show. That'da been pretty hard core of me eh? Instead I'll just get some of their music and hope they're back here in 6 months.
p.s. On their site they have a photo of them "w/ pals, The French Kicks".... nice! (the french kicks are opening for hot, hot heat for those of you not paying attention - they're great!)
Oooh - so check this out! You know hottie (not to mention such a beaaautiful voice)
Neko Case?
She won as the "
Sexiest Babe of Indie Rock"! awww yaaa she is!
I was also delighted to see
Rainer Maria's rocker chic, Caithlin De Marrais is up on there, too. Now I really have something to look forward to for this Friday's show! :p On this contest they don't give her the most glowing review for their talent - but if you've been listening to Rainer Maria, you'll hear she's getting a lot better. Their
new EP is really excellent!
Hey - are there any Rainer Maria fans out there? Or any of you up for joining me for a rockin show this Friday night?
contact me.
I've just updated the Upcoming Shows/Events list
on the left. There are SOO many great shows coming up it's CRAZY!!!
I'm soooo psyched to see Grandaddy and Super Furry Animals play this Thursday night - as well I heard Rogue Wave
might be playing a set in the lounge (update: they had to head to Portland for a show -
Josh Fix & the Furious Force played instead = pretty good actually). The whole night is gonna be soo sweet!
Next week I am FINALLY going to see my favorite band of 2003: Hot, Hot Heat!! Do you know how FREAKIN PSYCHED I will be in that audience!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!!? I can hardly contain myself thinking about it. *HUGE GRIN!!!!!!* PLUS, added bonus is the French Kicks are opening - who also have been rockin my world.
Brendan turned me onto them and I'm loving them and can't wait to see them live. I feel like I've been really really good or something and I'm getting rewarded with all these wonderful bands coming to play. hahhaa
Thank you awesome bands for coming here & SLAYING me with your kick ass talent!!!!
update: Next week is also Radiohead - Holy Sh*t, I'm going to see 4 of my favorite bands in one week!!!!!
Ok - that's about all the effusiveness I can muster w/o some caffeine in my bloodstream. Later...

I only have a minute, but wanted to post photos from the weekend!
Friday night we went out for drinkies for
Jee &
Kat's bday -
here's a few photos.
Saturday
Jane,
Kevin & I headed down to Moss Beach for a
Sandcastle making party!
Jish invited us & has
photos up too. (update:
more photos taken by
kristin!) It was such an amazingly warm and beautiful day - and it was so much fun!
I also finally posted photos from
Jane's Grill & Swill w/ her Mom.
Ok - I'm off to Marin for dinner w/
friends!
Saturday, September 13, 2003
- a great friday phone meeting with my
talented &
creative business woman friends
- a trip to the coffee shop for an iced coffee (cuz it's sooo frickin hot here lately!!!)
- a day with my friend
Trina for painting (!)
Look!
- a scurried rush home to get ready to go out for
Jee &
Kat's birthday soiree (and the many darling friends of mine who joined us!)
- my quick bite and entertaining conversation with the cute Algerian/Parisian boy at Crepes-a-Go-Go... and my outright No to his request to take me to dinner sometime (which as handsome as he was he obviously wasn't used to that response!)
- a friend of Jee's crashing on her bike and having to get an ambulance to the hospital (!!!)
- and then (of course less dramatic, but not to my water soaked
cat), my getting home and spilling my entire glass of water all over the floor
..... out of ALL of that..... the saddest, most alarming news of my day is that I just realized
John Ritter died. :(
When I was in the coffee shop getting my iced coffee (see activity #2 of the day) I could have sworn that's what I heard said on the radio in the coffee shop. And I even asked the girl "Did you hear that?!" and she flippantly said, "Ya, I think they said you could win something." ... so I thought, ya, of course... He's too young. But I could have sworn I heard it - the unbelievable truth that John Ritter had died.
I know so many amazing personalities have left this world lately that I haven't posted about here.... but personally I grew up on the cheesy puns and sexual innuendos of
Three's Company. Not to mention I personally met and chatted with THE John Ritter when I was about 15, in my hometown of Steamboat, Colorado. He was at our public pool trying to arrange for a private pool party when we came in for a swim on a slow weekday afternoon one summer.
Anyway... I can't believe it's true. I thought I had heard it wrong. He was so young.
Good thoughts to Jee's friend who went to the hospital tonite too... I hope her knee's ok - apparently it got pretty messed up in the bike fall. Who knows how much she had drank (as everyone thought she seemed pretty sober). All I know is I have a scar from College to prove alcohol and biking don't mix.
I'm not sure what else to say as it's 2am and I'm ready for bed. But I will say that I LOVE LOVE LOVED painting today - even though a bit of it was such a struggle with myself and my own abilities. I have great respect for those who paint!!!
Tomorrow I tackle drawing!! About 4 of us are taking a live model drawing drop-in class. Woohoo!! Then I'm going sandcastle making!! wooo-eee!!
Only because I feel like here I've talked about such enjoyable life events & the sadness of death do I feel like I need to wrap this up somehow delicately. But I tried that... and what I wrote doesn't sound profound or amazing - it just sounds like I'm trying to wrap it up delicately.
Goodnight.

this is hilarious.
Ok, you all are going to think I'm the biggest spaz, but
here's some videos I took with my new fisheye lense today.
I got shy.
Email me if you wanna see em.
Speaking of spaz
material, go check out
this site.
Aimee wants
this sticker.
I just, appropriately enough, bought
this one.

Look how fun!
I'm off to
dinner now - adios amigos!
update: dinner was good, I recommend it!
all of a sudden the afternoon sun started beaming through my windows and I'm burning up.
I'm SOOO excited though, because I just got done playing around with my NEW Fisheye lens!!! WAHOOO!!!!!!! I'm soooo freakin excited. That's probably why I've just worked up a sweat a little cuz I've been cruising around my house taking photos of everything from every angle. I went outside on the porch for a minute too and that's when I really realized the heat. I promised myself I'd go to the beach on the next day like this, but this one snuck up on me! It's amazing out!
Anyway - kick ass photos from my new Fisheye to be posted soon - wahoo!!

I just got a
ton of new music. And I attempted to organize my CD's tonite. As I said, it's an absolute CD explosion in my living room right now. I'm gonna invent something to fix this problem!
Speaking of
new music - I think my new
favorite CD is
Stephen Malkmus*. I'm embarrassed to say I've never listened to Pavement, so that whole part of him is news to me. His CD was just randomly
given to me and I didn't know what it was going to be like. I really like it - and I'm lucky to have
friends that give me new music!! :)
I've also become a pretty big fan of
Rainer Maria... they're coming to town
soon! So many
good shows coming up...
* and
Spoon. I'm loving them, too.
One of the youth I facilitate at
Bamboozled.org, is an amazing
artist and has been doing a comic series on another BAM member named Glen, and how accident prone he is :)
They're both awesome kids. The
whole group is. Anyway - check out Neima's latest cartoon,
Glen's Run.
oh - and you have to see the
great photos Matt took Friday night. We had a bit of a photo taking extravaganza where everyone else passed us up on the way to Casanova and we stopped and compared our shots of everything for about 2 blocks. He has a
Canon Elph - and everyone I know who has one of those is so happy with it... The little thing takes awesome photos. I just kept getting frustrated that my camera wasn't taking as awesome point & shoot shots as his. Maybe it's my settings? Either way, I need to buy one to have a smaller camera to take out & about and not have to worry about
my expensive baby.

can someone please make it so that I can catch up on my blog reads while laying in the tub taking a hot soak? thanks.
Tonite
Jee showed me this cool thing on Yahoo's Travel site -
check it out!
I have been wanting to go to Greece, but fares are turning out to be around $700 - and I guess I was hoping I could find those off season rates a bit lower. However, it's good to know it'd be inexpensive once I got there. This yahoo tool is neat though cuz I can see how inexpensive fares are around Athens, just in case I wanted to fly somewhere close and then just see about getting inexpensive travel within Europe.
BTW - I posted aaall the photos from Aimee's visit. And you know the sweet older man at the coffee shop, that I
posted about? Well, Aimee
taught him how to make a Cubano!
Aimee's a
barista at
Fair Grinds in New Orleans, so by her definition a Cubano is a way to sweeten up the Espresso drink by putting some raw sugar between the espresso grinds before you
tamp it. (oh my gawd I'm so going to start
using this
dictionary site)
Anyway - here's a photo of
George and his wife, Frida. Cute huh!? :)
Saturday night's photos truly capture what a fun time we had. Check out the beautiful views of the bay as the
sun went down and how close we were to
Coit Tower! Amazing.
After
Brendan's we went down to North Beach & hit some dive bar (where
I scored big - hahaa) and then of course finished the night at Specs, which is one of my favorite bars. We also had some delicious hit-the-spot pizza around midnight or 1am. Mmmm! Quite a fun night.
Tomorrow I have someone coming to look at the
Trooper. woohoo!
Here's a
funny blog my friend
Eric sent me.
p.s. for all you out there who are losing your hair, read
this hilarious post. His most
recent post is really funny too.
I
look up the meaning & spelling of words several times a day. I guess my vocabulary is growing, and whats more is I finally have a desire to know the words I'm using are correct (as I am known for just making up words that seem to fit for what I'm trying to say). Whatever it is, I'm loving looking up words lately!!
I don't go for the
Word of the Day personally. Instead I like finding myself needing to use a certain word, so I look it up to make sure it's spelled correctly and to learn what the exact definition is. As many of you writers and word geeks can relate, vocabulary is facinating!!
Today's word I looked up is
convivial. As in "...looking for a convivial meeting place for old friends?"
I was stirred to go look up this word after seeing it on
The Last Supper Club's website. I'm planning to go there this week with a friend I ran into a week or so ago & hadn't seen in 9 years!!! It'll be my first time trying this restaurant. I heard it's good and is just getting better, so I'm looking forward to it!
Today is my lovely friend,
Jee's birthday. This girl has the most
beautiful smile and
cutest laugh! I wish you all the best today, sweet Jee!!

Wanna buy my
Trooper?
Yes I drive an SUV. (gasp!) But not for long. I've been wanting a Subaru Outback, so that's what I plan to get after I sell this.
I was thinking about getting a hybrid.. and even wrote to Subaru to see if they are planning to come out with one. They wrote back and said yes! ...but not for a couple years apparently.
Anyway -
buy my trooper!
