camera dreams
I need a camera that I can strap to my head like a headlamp. Sometimes I want to take a photo of something, but I need two hands to hold it. What if I want to take a photo of both my hands, looking down on them? (my birdseye view of them) This means that it also needs to be voice activated. What would the activation word be? *SNAP!* or *CLICK* or *TAKE IT!*

Ok, while I'm wishing.... I also would like to be invisible.
Then I could go around taking photos without anyone thinking "what the hell is she taking a photo of over there?" or "whats so interesting about that old thing?" or "that girl is bugging me by taking so many damn photos" etc.

oh - and instead of voice activated, the camera could simply be a microscopic chip (maybe disguised as a hair clip) and it would read my mind. (ok, that probably won't happen - or would be dangerous in some cosmic-everyone-has-a-microchip-camera-that-reads-minds kind of way) I know - I could just have the cord in my mouth and bit down or something to snap the pic? that might get all drooly though - and what if I needed to say something to someone else? Like my photo assistant! (another dream :)

Pet elephant kills politician.

Boy don't we all wish that was President Bush's pet elephant? that'd be a real tragedy huH? Maybe we could all rally together and get him a nice baby elephant for his birthday!

I've got to get my comments working again. I switched servers and when the php started freakin, I put it on the backburner (a.k.a. gave up) but now I wanna ask you all something (those of you who may or may not be there out in the ether of our world) but how dare I ask you to actually compose an email with your thoughts about it huh? heh.

here's my question just in case you're not afraid of the personal email:

Ok actually forget it. I'm not going to ask it. I like the comments idea, dammit. It's nice to see what others say, that's the fun of it! Alright, I'll get my comments going again & then ask.

Chris' site is totally inspiring me to write. I'm looking forward to going to see his band play. (and this one)

Taurian East Bay Bday Party

The Taurian East Bay Bday party lastnight was short-lived but fun. I met a couple new people, like Chris: the guy who rents his chest! Vera, who recognized me as a fellow Flash Goddess, which was a cool surprise - and more.... I could go on with about 6 other URL's, but just visit Vera's site for the full story - she did a better recap than I could have done! Looking at all the photos from the party makes me realize that Stig & I should have SOOO gone back there and rallied till 4am with the rest of them. Damn we missed a good party! But alas, we had a show to get to.

sad side note:
before leaving the party, I had begun discussing favorite venues with Devin and I find out that Liz Phair is opening for the Flaming Lips show coming up!!!!!!!!!

Jane freaked as hard as I did upon learning this news and we frantically tried to get online to buy tix, and then when that didn't work we picked up the phone and wouldn'tcha know it THEY'RE SOLD OUT! :*( I'm sooooooo bummed. I can't believe LIZ PHAIR is doing an ACOUSTIC show and I'm missing it!!! AND The Flaming Lips! We were totally going to buy tickets last week and we were SLACKERS and now look! *sob*
Anyway - back to lastnight. Chan (pronounced "shawn", of Cat Power) was very mellow - but great to see live. Her voice is soo amazing and she's got such a secret sensuality about her. My only gripe was that it should have been a seated show. Jane just about fell over ...zzzz :)

The GAMH is more beautiful than I remember it... it dawned on me I hadn't been to a show there in quite some time!! I guess the last time was when Michelle & I hit a Matt Nathanson show there about a year & 1/2 ago... which if anyone knows my love for that guy, I wasn't lookin at the ceiling!

I met a guy today, by total random chance, who happened to be there working the sound on her show lastnight. (I'm sure "working the sound" is a poor description of his actual job, as it's no doubt just from seeing his home set up the man has skillz.) Anyway - it was cool to hear some of the behind the scenes scoop - and to hear just how darn cute Chan really is. It was also refreshing to chat with this guy about music overall... I love being around people who can really talk music. He can not only talk it, but he can play it, mix it and spin it. Very cool.

So lastnight Stig & I did a CD swap - and he got me the brand-spankin-new-not-even-released-in-the-USA-yet Radiohead.... NICE! and surprised me with some other Demo/B-sides of theirs, too. Is there a Radiohead fan bigger than Stig? I highly doubt it. I think the man sleeps with their CD's on the other pillow. what a cutie :) He also hooked me up with Cat Power's Moon Pix & The Covers Album. Oh - and some Peaches, aaaaww yaaa. It should be called "Not for Nuns". It's hilarious.... and naughty :p

Ok, now it's time for bed. Sleepytime tea and a few chapters of my latest read, Into the Forest.

This is a fun site: Uncommon Goods. I love the recycled stuff.

We didn't watch Six Ft. Under the other night. I stayed on my computer till it was too late.... time just slips by me...

By then Matt had made some dinner and I sheepishly asked him if he'd share with me. We talked a little while and then sat down for our Thursday night shows. Tivo-style: we just fast forward through the commercials - aaww yaaa! It's the only way to do it. Will & Grace was pretty funny. Karen f-in' cracks me up.

Yesterday Matt left for Arizona to visit little Evan. I was working at home, but didn't get as much done as I'd have liked. It was a bit hard to focus. But I did have our washing machine fixed by a nice old repair man named Vladimir, so that's productive I suppose. I also picked up a 6-pack of Bass and some yummy olives. The necessities for a weekend on my own :p

Lastnight I went & visited my little boyfriend Zach. Gawd is the little man just the CUTEST thing. This baby more than any other baby around makes me want to have kids. It's weird, he's got a serious hold on my heart. Meanwhile his parents think he's a little blob. hahaa - they do! But only cuz they're so used to their 2 year old Marissa (who in that photo thought having her finger up her nose was the funniest thing) She is talking up a storm and responds 10 fold (usually in a "NO!") to everything they say. She's a total cutie though. It's super cute to hear her call me "Wee-yo". We had a great time wrestling around (tickle torture) and I helped them with 'Operation: Get Two Kiddos To Bed'. It takes strategy and planning, that's for sure!

Tonite Jane, Stig & I are heading over to a party in the E. Bay. Should be fun. Lots of people I don't know, but have heard of through one person or another. Then we're cruising back to hit the Cat Power show. I'm really looking forward to that. I also need to buy my tix for the Flaming Lips, if they're not sold out already. And I'd really dig seeing the White Stripes, too. They're sold out, but maybe I could still get a ticket. The trick is finding who will go with me on a Monday night. They're so rockin...

Also Stig is bringin along the new Radiohead for me to burn. NICE. And another Cat Power CD, one that Chan is singing covers.

In my CD player right now: Smokey & Miho

I hate Scott Peterson so bad. I know it was him, the f*&%er. What kind of SICK SICK man does such a thing? Grrr!!!!! Not to mention all the other horrific news that is in our headlines today. Jeeeezus! What in the hell is our world coming to?

:(

I just have to say... my buddy is sooooo cute when he yawns.

My #1 misspelled word: definately

well, really it's: definitely
I think it should be spelled with an 'a'.

Thats all I have for you today. Oh that - and I'm psyched cuz we're watching Six Feet Under, Season 1, Disc 2 tonite. w00t (as the kids say)

Oh - and yes, I always spell 'tonite' like that, too. tomato/tomaaato

ooh - and I almost forgot: Lastnight I watched Spirited Away for the first time. It was EXCELLENT! The Easter bunny brought it for me! xoxo so sweet! The film is so beautiful (not to mention really trippy!!) We really enjoyed it - and I can't wait to watch it again.

My friend Justyn was in town this past weekend with his new girlfriend Stephanie (who is sooo adorable, among other great qualities). They are so in love, it's soo sweet! xoxo Justyn moved out of SF 6 months ago for a job in Nashville - and lo and behold as soon as he arrived in Nashville he met this wonderful girl. I'm so happy for them. J's someone I've known since high school... there was about 7 years we didn't see eachother, and then randomly ran into eachother on Caltrain 4 years ago & have been best friends ever since. He's awesome... there's nothing like being around really good old friends.

They arrived Thursday night and we went & listened to Johnny (DFC) play - and Friday night after Matt & I went to AsiaSF with our friend Persephone and her new beau, we met Justyn & them over at Johnny Foley's where his friend Scott was playing, UFM (Urban Funk Machine). I also picked up some new CD's this weekend: the new White Stripes and the new Yo La Tengo - and a few others (that I can name here cuz I haven't given them to her yet) for my friend Michelle's bday that I'll be kindly asking her to dupe for me :p

Saturday I discovered Burlington Coat Factory for the first time and got myself a new coat! Among other great little finds... am I the only one that has had the epiphany that they don't just sell coats? That place is great! hahaa We also went & saw Mighty Wind on Saturday night, which was hilarious!

Sunday I went over to Jane's for the long-awaited [Granny's] shortbread. mmm! I finally met some of the friends Jane talks about all the time, too. Great to place faces with names and chat it up with some other design/web peeps... Some may be bored of that, but I myself haven't had enough of that around me at all. So after a couple mamosas and great conversations on everything from Evan's wrestling his anti-convergence theory -to- all us girls chatting about the latest new contraception methods, we hit the park for the Easter festivities, done in true San Francisco spirit: Drag queen nuns and Hunky Jesus'. Great people watching :) I'll post photos sometime in the next day or so.

4/26/03: I posted the photos awhile ago, but just realized I promised them to you all. Do you care? Were you really waiting with baited breath to see them? Is anyone out there? Probably not. Anyway - here they are: Photos from Easter Weekend

grr... I think I've got to make the move over to moveable type. every other time I happen to click to my archives I notice that many months (well weeks because even though now that I've changed it to months it still hasn't gotten a clue about it) are missing! blah! for the record... there should be a list of about 5 links dating back to feb 23, 03... (ya, i stopped blogging for a long while and just picked it back up recently, in case you're wondering "only back to feb 23?!!?") anyway. hopefully I can get around to doing that whole transition soon.

I met some great girls lastnight. Jane, the sweet lil' button that she is, was thoughtful enough to get a bunch of girls together for some tasty drinks and girl chatter. Little did I know it was going to be an amazing dose of women wisdom and insightful discussions about creativity, relationships, life, etc. Maybe it wasn't even all that earth moving... but I just REALLY dig hanging out with creative, independent women. GRRL PWR!

My friend Karrie lives in NYC now, and she sent me a little surprise at work today! It's a ladybug snowglobe!! So cute! She's such a sweetie pie, cuz she remembered from years ago that I love ladybugs! So, I had some fun with my webcam to show her how much I love it & how great it nestles in just perfect with all my other little toys that keep me company all day!

Along with it there was a little note and on there was a copy of the cartoon I had drawn (on a card) for her when she moved to the big apple! She went off to Film school, so I drew a little character (similar to her) with the statue of liberty crown holding up an apple & to her side, she's holding a book with the word "FILM" on it. (I'll have to scan it in) I was so surprised to see it cuz it's been so many years!
I first thought, "What cute little note paper!" and then it dawned on me - "Hey, I think I drew that!" :)

It's so fun to get surprises at work!

p.s. if you don't know of SupahFly yet - go check em out [ 2 ] - so hilarious! I wanted the supahfly doll for so long and Matt got it for me last Christmas - I was so psyched! And we couldn't stop laughing. He says about 4 different hilarious things when you squeeze him. So damn funny.

SMITTEN.
I am soooo in love with a little baby boy named Zach. He's a man of many funny faces! Just like his Daddy! hahaa (just kidding David) Actually funny runs in this family, that's what I love about them!

The Zach photos are from yesterday. We had brunch with David, Elana & 10 week old little Zach (2 year old Marissa stayed w/ a sitter) at Rose's Cafe and then walked around Union Street. It was nice to have the sun out a little bit!

Any LOFT fans out there? Well, I was a huge fan - and was *tres* bummed when they shut down. BUT now there's a new store open in it's place that's very similar, called Portico. Really quality designer home furnishings (probably expensive, I didn't even look) but if I had my druthers, my whole house would be designed with this stuff!

Had dinner w/ my brother lastnight. He's such a solid guy... I just LOVE him!! Go figure cuz he's my bro, right? But really having him in my life - another unconditional, loving family member, is so awesome. Family is incredible. Through changes and heartache and ups and downs of life... they're always there. As messed up as familys can be, I'm treasuring mine more and more these days.

Buy this bikini! I had wanted this forever, but when I finally got it, it was a little too skimpy for my voluptuous curves. :) Victoria's Secret runs really small. I learn the hard way most every time.

I've also been searching for a new duvet cover/set. It's really hard to find awesome duvet covers!! They're all so old and boring. (well, either that or their $500 dkny or something) Ideally I'd like to stay under a couple hundred, especially if I plan to have matching pillows!!! Anyway - this whole rant is leading you me to tell you about a couple cool sites for designer linens: dwellshop and here's an entire list of great designer shops.

I'm bidding on an ebay cover now, but if I don't get that one, I'm going for linens at Dwellshop for sure.

My buddy, Michelle is in town! "Mickey" & Aaron are here for the weekend, with us tonite & then going down to visit his parents down in Palo Alto. Michelle & I know eachother from high school back in Steamboat... She cracks me up - the girl should be on SNL. She is one person I can truly say has brought me to tears laughing my ass off (many times). In fact I think the first day we met, in Mrs. Conlon's English class, she had me rollin. (Mrs. Conlin wasn't so pleased :) .....I knew at that moment we'd be friends.

This reminds me of when I ran into Bill Murray on the streets of Boulder one night. I said to him, "It's great that I'm meeting you! .... I love to laugh!" hahhaa (I'd had a few) And after that I put my arm through his & his friends, and led them down to my favorite bar, the James. It was such a fun night!!

Alice fooled me.
If any of you are Alice 97.3 listeners - you may have also been "April fooled". The morning show is somewhat controversial, I guess (and for the small amount it is - thank god, cuz it's something entertaining to listen to when I don't have the energy for Stern). So they'd been leading up last week talking about how pissed management was, etc. And then yesterday I hear this announcement from the stations manager about how "Some changes need to be made"... "you can now listen to the morning show comfortably with your family" and then he announced the "new morning show with Mike and Malou will be taking over" & I was blown away! I immediately boycotted them, switched all my stations on my clock radio & the one in the shower.

So, today was the day of the "new morning show" -- and I wasn't going to switch it over, and I even stood there thinking.. should I? Didn't I commit myself to totally boycotting them? But I just had to hear how bad this Mike & Malou really were. So I turned it on, but lo & behold - it was Alice & No Name still!! I was like WHAT?! Then slowly it dawned on me. It was really pretty funny cuz I got TOTALLY suckered and believed it!! Well done, Alice.

Overall I'm not a fan of the music on radio here. You'd think San Francisco would have such better music focused radio!! Not just crappy TRL inspired top 20 hits played over & over 10 times a day. ug. I mean, I can get through a day with a little KFOG and then LIVE105 in the afternoon or after work... but I really wish we had a station like Seattle's KEXP. My friend, Jane turned me onto it. They actually play music that I LOVE!! And they play new music from bands on small labels that deserve to be heard!! It's awesome. The best part is I can listen to it online while I'm at work! Check it out. And SOMEONE, please start a better radio station here in SF!!
