bee & I in the sun

bee & I in the sun

I lived with Bee, in her beautiful Russian Hill flat, back when I was 21, and she was 72. She had always been a spry, quick witted, independent lady... and a dear friend. Sadly, in the last 5 years, Bee's health has declined dramatically. After having a stroke, and then pneumonia, her body strength has deteriorated, and so has the clarity of her memories and thoughts.
Recently they moved her to a convalescent home near my house, so I went over there on Friday and got to spend some time with her. I brought her photos and tried to talk to her... but she was quiet and confused, saying she thought her son had died in a plane crash. oy. :(
So I promised her I would have him come visit her with me... and her son, Joe, and I met for coffee and then went to visit with her on Saturday. She was so happy to see him.
After knowing Bee for so long, it's so hard to see her like this. Especially because we know she's conscious enough to know she's not happy with it either. I plan to go visit her every weekend or every other weekend. She likes me to bring her a good cup of coffee. :)
Here's a few more photos from our visit.
