a very sad tail...

My poor baby kitty had to go to the vet today (more details in the previous post), and after picking him up I saw they had done what we (mateo, my kitty daddy & I) had feared: put a cone on him! awww! :( However, being the stubborn fella that he is, within the first 90 minutes or so at home he was so fed up bumping into everything and not being able to do the simplest things - like eat a piece of food off the floor - he yanked his way out of it. Oy. They said it was supposed to stay on all week, but there was no way I was going to put either of us through the torture of trying to put it back on him... especially when he'll just rip it off again AND the first time he about strangled himself getting out of it. And god forbid that happen in the middle of the night or something. So this kitty momma says it stays off. Honestly I think it's so sore at this point he won't dare lick it for awhile anyway.

You should see his little shaved tail (well part of it)... he looks like a poodle or something. Super furry tail, then a big space, and then the fluff at the end. But now that the hair around it is gone I can see the wound is really bad. It's a good thing I took him in... he could have lost part of his tail to infection or something!! :( poor baby.

The worst part though has been seeing him so drugged up & out of tonite. He'll try to jump up on the table & he can't make it... and then if he does, he's so wobbly he's fallen off a few times. :( When he first came home he was so hungry - but it's like his motor functions weren't working, so he'd try to eat, but he was just slobbering all over the food and every once & awhile one would make it in. Every time I pick him up he's just a limp snuggly baby in my arms. I'm sure he's just so happy to be home now... and I'm glad I didn't have any plans tonite, so I could be here with him.

I know this is the worst of it, but it's still been a pretty traumatic day for both of us. I'll be giving him antibiotics every day and keeping him inside for awhile (which he is going to hate), but if you're a kitty lover, please send some loving thoughts our way that he heals up OK.

UPDATE: There's a few photos here (sorry some are a little gross of the stitches) and I uploaded a few videos, too.
