random updates/thoughts from the last week
- I hope you Californians voted today! I'm late on posting this, but thought I'd point out a great voting guide on Bagel Radio's site. You should also download Ted's kick ass compiliations if you haven't already.
- I am enjoying a relatively new "e-friendship" with this awesome designer, painter and music lover in ohio. I can hardly remember how we first connected, but was blown away he painted the cover of the Heartless Bastards CD. So cool. Hmm... Ali, do you need to go back home & visit family any time soon and maybe want to take me with you? :)
- I have had an insane craving for potato salad lately. I bought some. Ate it all. I still want more. Now I've asked my neighbor to make me some, and the best part is he'll make it how I like it best: red potatoes, with the skins still on, and celery! In other random "what I'm eating" news, I made myself a sandwhich today that was melted gouda, turkey and honey mustard on a wheat pita! mmm!
- Book worm: In the last 2 months I've read (or listened to) Freakanomics, The Namesake, Pattern Recognition and Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit. I am currently reading Reefer Madness (this one I'm listening to), Eats Shoots & Leaves, Designing With Web Standards and The Now Habit.
- As for music (you knew it was coming, didn't you?), I'm currently way into the new: Matt Pond PA, Rogue Wave, Metric, Architecture in Helsinki and Broken Social Scene.
- Now that I finally have baking supplies in my house (for the first time since living here on my own - 2.5 years! - prompted by my making Pumpkin Spice Cookies from Sarah's recipe), I am making chocolate chip cookies next!
- I feel like I could blog for hours and hours and hours I have had so much running through my head to blog about. Sadly hardly *any* of it actually gets posted here.
- Because I'm sans boyfriend and don't feel the need to be prepared for a one night stand of any sort, I've let my bush grow wild, and I actually think it's kinda sexy! haha! I realize this might be venturing into TMI, but to me it's funny. I will go back to waxing again eventually, but right now I am enjoying feeling like a curvy, furry 70's porn star.
- Hmm... how to segue from talking about my amazon bush (maybe people will skim this & assume I'm talking about the jerk in the white house?)
- Best shows on TV: Lost, Grey's Anatomy, Laguna Beach, and E.R.. I also indulge in Joey, Will & Grace and most recently I'm checking out that new show, Freddie, because I know one of the writers. I have completely given up on The Real World, but for some reason still TiVo it.
- I get to go see Cirque du Soleil's Corteo on Thursday night! When I saw that this was coming to town, I thought to myself "Oooh, I hope a boy asks me to go!" and guess what? Someone did! yay!
- I have been SO productive lately! Going over my to do list last Thursday I realized I had something on there from 2 YEARS AGO. It was a probono wall painting I'd offered to do for a school in Marin when I first went out on my own. I was going to do it for the potential new business I might get from all the parents that would see it. However, shortly afterwards the winter rains came and my Web Design business took off, leaving me up to my ears in work, not to mention learning how to run my own business. I had kept in touch with the lady there, dropping her a postcard periodically letting her know I hadn't forgotten. But as time went on my business only got busier and it is just plain time to call a spade a spade and admit it's not a priority and therefore it's not going to happen. So last week I took the steps to officially let her know I wouldn't be doing it. However, right before I dropped the letter in the mail to her, I talked to a friend who said she hasn't been there in about a year anyway! Oh my. Let this be a lesson to me to clear up things on my To Do lists more often. This task has only been a burden on my mind. I wanted to do it, I really did! But as much as it saddens me I can't take the time to paint those big white canvases (walls & fences), it's quite freeing to have it officially off my plate. I didn't send the letter but instead opened it back up & read it to myself.
- The theme of streamlining my time has become a big one for me this year. Or more so as of summer, maybe. I don't know... I'm always in a constant state of wanting to be more efficient, productive, etc. Either way, recently I've been actively re-prioritizing things in my life in order to free up some time for things I've been wanting to do forever and instead keep hearing myself say "I don't have time". A few of the big things are: I've officially put down drumming for the time being, I'm trying not to work every weekend like I have for the majority of the last 2 years, and I'm scheduling time for *my* art.
- Another fantastic accomplishment this week was finishing up a site for a client of mine that we started way back in May. There were some delays on their end that took so long that by the time they were ready to get started again, I was smack dab in the middle of another huge project, so it had to be put on hold for a little bit longer. It's now in the final review process, but the fact that that To Do List item is checked off is SO AWESOME!
- As of yesterday morning, I officially have a Sellers Permit! So now I can buy T's at wholesale prices! I'm hoping to open a store on my site in the next few months.
- I have only gone to the gym once or twice in the last few weeks, but instead I've been hiking up the hill behind my house and it's been so nice. This morning I woke up and took a hike. It had rained all night, so everything was dripping wet. But the sun was out, it was blue skies and the air was nice and crisp. Everytime I'm up there I look out to the amazing view and am so thankful I live in such a kick ass city.
- My Mom & I were originally going to go to Cozumel for Christmas to go diving... but now we're not due to all the hurricane damage. :( I feel so bad for all the people down there... they got hit really hard. I'm bummed though because I'll be getting certified at the end of this month and really wanted to spend Christmas someplace warm!! So now we need to figure out where to go. I still want to try to have us end up on a warm beach! Man, doesn't that sound awesome right now?
- Hot showers are like crack to me. I need a fix! It's also time to put the electric blanket back on the bed. brrrr.
OK, I think I got most of the random thoughts out. I'm sure there's more... but this will do for now. :)
