so much goin on!!!
Things are *happenin* around here people! You hear me!? Busy, busy!! And I LOVE IT!!!I have come to the conclusion that I absolutely THRIVE on it. A mover & shaker is what I am!! The only problem is that I sadly am waaay behind on a lot of the luxurious things that can take up the day... catching up on my favorite blogs, getting through any of the 10 magazines on my coffee table, watching any of the TIVO shows before they get deleted over cuz it's so dang full! Let alone working out (which I *so* need to do after my SXSW beer diet + a week of sitting behind my desk catching up on work!!), let alone go see a movie - that sounds so luxurious! :)
BUT! I did go see a show lastnight! Oh Yes, I made myself stop working and go... You just can't much stop me from going to shows. Sure I hardly see movies, watch tv, go out to dinner with friends, hit art openings - but a live show!? I'm THERE! :)
It was The Liars w/ Young People and Get Hustle (who we really only saw the very last of, and it was weird. The orangatang-like clown-dancing-man up front wasn't doin her any favors either)
So Young People were GREAT!!!! Wow were they awesome!!!!
Their songs are just so cleverly arranged - it's so unique, and so simple. And their songs delightfully short. I didn't know the lead girl played the drums too. Not crazy rocker drums like I like, but more beat, tink, beat beat type playing. Good stuff!!! And then they'd switch it all around and she'd do some guitar and stand up front, etc. We love it when they're all so multi-talented.
Dammit I need to become a musician. A multi-talented musician!!!!
Ok - so then the Liars came on. Ugh. They didn't play anything I knew (or as Jake said, anything I could recognize that I knew, anyway). And they were just kind of annoying honestly.
I mean, I was trying *hard* not to judge. "Willo, don't let the fact that you're somewhat super grossed out by this dirty messy haired biggrossjaggerlips lead singer disuade you from really listening to the music" "Willo, don't let the fact that their songs are just sounding noisy for the sake of noise and that they haven't really played a song that sounds anywhere near put together or anything like what you like about the one CD you do have of theirs" (actually it wasn't that bad - some of the songs were good, it was really the whole gross out thing that wasn't doing it for me so much.)
Actually I thought the drummer was entertaining. He looked like he should be on rollerblades rolling gayly (literally) down some Miami boardwalk in the 70's. Seriously. Can you picture that? I kinda liked it. He even made a gay/rollerblading joke. no way, huh? ya, seriously. Anyway - Jem was sorta annoyed by him - but shit - take that lead singer off the stage (even though I don't mind his voice) *screech* anyway - whatever - that was that.
Also - distraction A#1 was it was somebody special's first night back after a whole 8 days. What a mush I am!! mush smush! :) good stuff.
Ok so ya, that was lastnight - a pretty fun show. Young People was worth it - and got to see one year older and sophisticatingly fantastic jemmerific the wonderkitty. She had stalagmite earrings on. Feel the power!
::::
I'm rambling because I need sleep. I got to work by about 9:30 today, left at 5 for BAM, got home by 9 and worked/caught up on emails till now. And have just decided to stop working for the night & get some sleep instead of starting in on something and staying up till 2am again. But this just means I have to get up early tomorrow to finish it before I leave for an appt!! wooee!! So much goin on.
nighty night from the happy willogirl
