breast cancer

My Aunt has just been diagnosed with breast cancer. Actually, not just - it has been about 2 months ago now... and since then she's gone in for surgery and had the lump removed and she and her husband and 3 young children (and of course all of us in the extended family) have been having to deal with the stark reality of it all.

But my Aunt's been so strong and really amazing. Her story is something all of us can learn from, too. Ya see, she was going in for her regular mammogram's, but they didn't catch it! Thankfully she was worried enough about a certain lump just enough to urge the doctors to take an ultrasound and that's when they found the tumor. So that's her message now... is to be extra careful in your self-exams.. and don't let a mammogram tell you everything's ok, especially if you're concerned about an abnormal lump.

So my Mom's just told me today that she's now having to get a double mastectomy. :( I'm so sad for her... but I just hope that this takes care of it and she can go on living her life cancer free!

Recently my Mom forwarded on this petition to me tonite - and so I thought I'd post it here for you all. If you can, take a minute to read it (if you read anything, read the 4th paragraph) and sign the petition to show your support!

Thanks and please send your positive thoughts to my Aunt. xoxo
