SUPER Furry Animals - try EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!
OH MY GAWD did SFA totally f*in' ROCK MY WORLD lastnight!!!!!! (had to delete about 20 other exclamation points that I typed... must. control. enthusiasm! :)Mat, Brendan & I arrived early so we could hit "the lounge" (the restaurant & bar on the 2nd floor of the Fillmore) for dinner and drinks. They have REALLY good food at the Fillmore, FYI! Don't be scared that you're gonna get just some regular ol' crap for that $10, it's WORTH $10!! Tasty cuisine by excellent chefs, beautiful display and all!
Kristin showed up a bit later and we all sat, ate, drank and enjoyed the lounge act, Josh Fix & the Furious Force. They were pretty good... definitely good for the crowd of SFA/Grandaddy fans. Also to our delight we had an awesome fireworks show going on outside the window too!
Unfortunately we were all too engrossed in conversation and yummy food/drink to peek at Earlimart playing. Ah well, will have to catch them at a smaller venue sometime.. I've heard they're good.
Ok - so now I get to the part where I will tell you how AWESOME SFA was!!!!!! I was LOVING IT!!!!!!! I couldn't believe how psyched I was to see them, how awesome they are live and how excellent the media was on the screen behind the band > at one point they had this awesome old cartoon playing during one of the songs, I wish I knew the name of it... it's that old b&w silent cartoon with the cows dancing and kissing and the cat bride & groom - where the groom accidently leaves the bride behind when he takes off in the rocket? sound familiar to anyone?
I actually was SOO into the music for SFA & Grandaddy, that most of the time I just closed my eyes... sometimes it's good to have that visual media along with it (and probably really good for those who aren't die hard fans yet to have something else to look at while they're soaking in the new music) but I just wanted to be with the music. It was soooooo awesome.
SFA kicked out some serious ROCK when they cranked up their final song, The Man Don't Give a Fuck, for a good 8 minutes. We were all on FIRE. There was also this awesome b&w video going on behind that - The whole damn show was soooooo f*cking great I can't even tell you. They're soooo rad that they can be all mellow and beautiful and then rawk so damn hard. Also there's an aire of techo/synth going on that I normally wouldn't be into at all - but with them & Grandaddy I absolutely got off on it.
After the SFA set ended, Brendan I were just buzzzzing with how amazing it was - and we couldn't believe they were just the opener & we still had Grandaddy to see!!! What a night!!!
Grandaddy was AWESOME to see live. They're extremely talented and it was WONDERFUL to hear some of my favorites played live and see the whole crowd of peeps just as thrilled as I was. The crowd was on fire for their two latest hits Now It's On and I'm On Standby... I was singin along! They had EXCELLENT back drop visuals, too.... among some of the funky videos playing (some of which I just closed my eyes so I was fully with the music and not spacin out to the visuals) they had a ton of movies with kitties in them!! It's hilarious - I think they love cats!! aww yaaa Let's hear it for cutie kitties!!! hahhaaa I, of course, was lovin it.
Scott showed up to join us right before SFA - and I was psyched to run into my coeditor of BAM, Jake and his girlfriend, Amy. Oh! and my old neighbors (little kitty, Gladys' parents) from Lundy's Lane were there too.
It was a fantastic night.
